So if the first gen have the w1 chip, couldn’t this be added with an update to the existing AirPods?
But then how would Apple get your money?

That baffles me too, the audio input goes right to the phone — why not process it there?
Just a wild guess but how about Siri on the airpods could do simple on-airpod stuff (volume up/down) REGARDLESS of what you are using them on e.g. Android phones, any bluetooth device etc.

There are a bunch of things on Amazon that offer size adapters and over the ear clips etc.

Perhaps, but you can't put the airpods in the charging case with that stuff.

If I'm going to have to be fiddling with putting stuff on and taking it off the airpods every time I use them, what's the point? Airpods are supposed to be about convenience and simplicity.

probably could do it with a update but then they couldn't get you to purchase the new ones then.

Bull! Siri still sucks! Try real life quiries, I can’t stand Siri results. Also, google search results far exceed siri’a Default search results.

Lastly, Siri is such a joke, try it’s translation for a good laugh. I always get, sorry, can’t translate that from Canadian English. google has no issue with it....

And when you switch to American English (which is the exact same), the translations are horrible!

Do you work for Apple?

I have never had any issues with Siri working. Does what I need when I need it. Always understands my request and complies.

It depends. I have siri, alexa and google devices and can say none of them are perfect. Sometimes siri is better. Sometimes it's not. It all depends. For what I use it for it's fine.

Now that I think about it I don’t think I ever used Siri via my AirPods. It just seems too silly doing it outside where people can hear you

I’d probably use the feature while taking pics with my iPad to at least max out the silliness.

The health feature is step counting... lol

but on a serious note, I’m starting to get a little impatient because I’ve had my current pair for almost two years now and I am just starting to notice my battery life degrading. Probably going to need a new pair whether they release next gen or not in the next few months...
I actually have been wondering the same thing, in regards of the battery life of my airports.

Sure, but they survived tests of washing in machine and being submerged in a tank for 30 mins. How much more "water proof" do you want them to be? Surely you don't expect to take them diving...
No, just snorkeling! Lol sorry couldn't resist

Not OP, but mine has been fine, and I much prefer that to Google's tracking.

Hmmm could it be possible that AirPods 2 will be released on the 7th of February?
I thought of getting myself a pair today and noticed that in the UK online store and also at my local Apple store they are out of stock until next month on the 7th...
