AirPods 3: Everything We Know So Far

I bought both the original AirPods and AirPod Pros on their respective release days... oddly enough, the far bigger issue for me is fit. The features of the Pros are nice - the ANC is great, and they do sound better than the cheaper model - but in my ears they don't fit remotely the same as the original AirPods. I've tried all the Apple tips (I guess I haven't tried aftermarket foam...) and the Pros just will not stay in my ears during chewing, talking, walking, or working out. Any movement beyond basic head-turning works them loose. It's a shame.

All this is to say, if I had it to do over again, I'd ignore the features and just keep replacing the original AirPods with the same. (I'm on my second pair of them, relegating the Pros to light desk duty, so to speak...) For my ear shape, whatever fits is the better value. So personally I am hoping this new version, if it's going to be a form factor change, more closely aligns with the fit of the originals.
I was exactly the same as you. I now have the Jabra 85t and they are incredible.

AirPods are the most throwaway product Apple makes with severely depleted battery within the first 2yrs. Totally goes against the “We must save the planet or die mantra.”

Anyone who believes that Apple is truly focused on 'saving the planet' also believes there's a stain on their shirt, their shoes are untied and saying 'gullible' slowly sounds just like 'oranges'!

The Apple ecosphere has always be one about marketing 'improved' products to replace perfectly good products. Compare the complete lack of user upgradability in their products compared to what they were previously. Soldered RAM and SSD's, no easily replaceable batteries, etc. The only thing 'green' about Apple is their continually growing income stream. Apple is no different than any other stock holder-driven global company out there. They market 'environmental friendliness' to sell more stuff.

Ironically, I have co-workers who constantly cry about the planet while buying a new phone every year. 🙄

As for any potential upcoming AirPod 3, I completely am onboard with those who don't want a second version of silicon tips. Maybe my ears are just unique, but the fit of the non-pro AirPods could not be any more comfortable and secure when I wear them. I gave my pros to my daughter because they end up moving around any time I talk or chew, and they end up irritating my ears. If I want noise cancellation, I'll use over the ear headphones. For everyday listening and phone calls, the standard AirPods are da bomb for me! 👍

Please no silicone tips. I want them to hook-in. Will want to get a pair of AirPods 2 to have stashed if the silicone rumor turns out to be true.

This makes me sad. The battery on my AirPods 2 is on it’s last legs and I really don’t want in ear headphones.
I really hope they keep the AirPods 2 around or make an alternative version that is not in ear (AirPods SE?)
Here is what you do, add the current Airpods to your amazon cart or list, when apple releases the new ones if they are changed then just order the airpods 2 and problem solved for now at least

The squeeze controls on the Pro are terrible compared to the Tap from the regular AirPods, I really hope they don’t carry that feature over from the Pros.

Not a fan of any of these changes really, aside from sound quality I like the standard AirPods more than the Pros tbh.

Across all Airpods - better sound quality! To me, these sound no better than the old free earphones that used to be bundled with iPhone. Sticking with Sony until then.

How about fix the software so it doesn’t show one bud at 20% and the other at 70% and inconsistent charging of buds.

I'll certainly be springing for these as my Gen 2's are getting a lot of use. They've held up surprisingly well though, but are showing signs of wear. I mostly have them on at work for about 4-6 hours a day so it's stacking up tons of charge cycles.

I would love to see more colors as well, preferably black but a dark blue would be great as well.

They're 100% recyclable and easy to do so. So what if you need to buy new ones after 2 years? They're pretty cheap for something I use 8+ hours a day every day for 2 years.

I have charged my first gen over 1000 times and still get over 2 hours so anyone complaining about battery life received a defective pair

Yea but I want an upgraded version with more features and better sound.
i know I can always buy the old version and will if I have to but that’s not very exciting...

Yeah but it seems like the only big difference will be the form factor

We don’t know that yet. Apple are well aware of the reliability issues with the first generation hence they are replacing them for free. I think there will be reliability improvements which may mean a redesign

I was hoping They would tell us that Apple is making them safer against in-ear 👂 RF exposure. I’m waiting for the safety aspect tech to improve

What do you mean replace them for free??
My left one has gotten pretty muffeled and the right ones battery will be dead when left is on 40%...

AirPods Gen. 2

I was talking about AirPods Pro and the rattling issues so many people are having. It is a design problem and Apple are replacing them for free

I've had mine since they first came out. still work the same

Always on hands free "hey Siri" in Airpods 2 has been a real boon to me for accessibility reasons. I would like to see Apple extend the hands-free, hey Siri feature by enabling Siri to hang up a phone call hands-free with a "hey Siri hang up" or "hey Siri end call" command. This will be especially useful for accessibility and people with motor disabilities who cannot handle a iPhone and Apple Watch and touch the screen.
Me: Hey Siri hang up!
Wife: I'm still here and not done talking....
Me: *Dead*

I used to have to throw away apple or sony earphones every 6 months because they just would fail for many reasons - mainly the cable would break or the cap would break. I've had my Airpods since the start, and they haven't failed me at all.

Replaceable batteries?

No?

K, bye. ✌🏼

I wouldn't want to have to pry open something that small to replace a battery. Having a rechargeable battery makes the most sense to me. Sure they will eventually fail, but the tradeoffs of weakening the system to allow for swap-able batteries, and opening the system up to liquid leakage into them. No...
