Some of us manage to not drop our iPhone or AirPods. Some of us are just exercise more care.

I trail run with mine. They sometimes fall out of my ears when I'm really sweaty and booking it up a really steep dirt/rock trail, and can easily disappear into leaves and such.

It's easy to not drop things when you're mostly sedentary.

Hopefully the new models aren’t obnoxiously huge and uncomfortable like Gen3. So many of us have Gen2 because they fit perfectly. A nice middle ground would be great.

And the new Adaptive mode is a really cool evolution of ANC. I use it a lot on the subway even without music playing, just to protect my hearing from super loud train sounds. Most of the time the noise cancelling is fairly minimal, but it adapts quickly when outside noise ramps up. I wish I'd had these years ago -- my hearing would probably be better than it is!

i absolutely adore the noise cancellation for subway and train noises

and apple health tells me how much hearing i’ve saved

at this point noise cancellation is 100% necessary as a commuter

Would be nice if we could get a case that doesn't explode the AirPods out in wild random directions when it's dropped... I think I'm more afraid of dropping my AirPods case than I am my iPhone these days.

LOL .. I freaking hate when that happens. The top latch shouldn't open so easily with just a small drop.

I miss the Gen 1/2 design, except for the long stems. It was like they were crafted to fit my ears perfectly. Gen 3 has a mediocre fit, but better sound quality. If Gen 4 had to sacrifice sound quality to get the Gen2 design with a USBC case, I would happily buy them immediately.

If Apple keeps the same shape & size as the 2nd generation & upgrades the inside chips, sound quality, etc…I Will Buy.

Please, please no silicone tips. I like the quality of the Pros, but the silicone tips are just awful so I am forced to move to the regular AirPods. I would hate to be forced into the lower wrung of this group and get even lower quality sound.

Silicone tips are what kept me away from the Pros. If the non-Pros adopt them...I'll just have to stock up on discounted AirPod 3's...or find something else.

Also, I didn't realize this was a year old thread.

Anyone else miss when Apple just put everything they had into 1 great model and charged a reasonable price for it?
🤣 @ using "Apple" and charging "a reasonable price" in the same sentence. There's always been an Apple premium for their products.

I just hope they keep a “classic” design for one of them. The AirPods 2 (just like the wired version) fit perfectly and don’t fall out easily. I bought the AirPods 3 and they were extremely uncomfortable and my ears kept pushing them out. I put up with it for a week before returning them and going back to the 2.
And no, the Pro isn’t desirable either. I can’t stand earbuds that create a seal.

I just use a small strip of white athletic tape over the lower stem. Seems to work quite well.

From the article today “Currently, there is little difference between the AirPods 2 and ‌AirPods 3‌ beyond their designs.”

Uh what? There is a pretty huge difference between the 2 and 3, the 3’s have significantly better sound quality.

They have always been premium products at a premium price. One that few people are unhappy to pay for the quality and experience. But in recent years Apple has started to gate established features artificially so as to maintain sales levels and create artificial product segmentation.

I can't state it enough... the only thing that matters are the (return of) TAP CONTROLS!!

If I can't use AirPods with gloves, mittens, under a hat, helmet, hoodie, all the above (as we could with Airpods 1&2) then the entire AirPods line falls into the realm of astonishing Apple Fails! Worse than the Round Mouse! Apple needs to GTF out of Cupertino and realize half the world is a cold place. And even when it's hot, it's just sooooo much faster and easier to quick tap to skip/play/pause than to squeeze a little nub in my ear (and accidentally pull them out of your ears).

There was nothing premium about Apple products in terms of their appearance/design and how they felt in your hands until the very late '90s starting with the G3 PowerBook and the G4 Macs (PowerBook, iMac, Cube) in particular. Everything prior was pretty much a boring beige or dark gray plastic box just like the Wintel products of the time.

Even the unboxing experience didn't change until the turn of the century.

Agreed, the squeeze is so dumb even if it’s not cold. Trying to squeeze it always changes the position of the airpod in your ear.
