When Apple announced Live Translation was coming to older models, I was happy thinking my AirPods 4 (AP4) would get the update. Without ANC, it sadly wouldn't get something I plan to use a ton next month on a trip to Germany. On their own, the AP4 deliver good sound and are great when taking calls or listening to music here and there.
On a whim, I decided to order APP3 from Verizon last week and was supposed to get them Friday.... except no one ever came. Long story short, FedEx allegedly left a tag (except none was ever left). By the time I got them Monday afternoon, I opened the box to see the APP3 crushed with ear tips and other stuff everywhere. My guess is the Friday driver was in a rush and stacked it below a bunch of heavier stuff (either that, or the guy did his best sumo impression on it).
Already, my impressions were a bit... mixed. While the APP3 was luckily in there, a visit to the nearby Verizon store got it swapped out for a better box! Right away, I'm immediately impressed with one huge feature: Active Noise Canceling (ANC).... I mean, WHOA. VERY impressive! It may not cancel out EVERY sound, but it feels like when people will tell you to concentrate and meditate and you're supposed to enter this zen-like state.... Within seconds of putting on APP3, it's exactly like I hoped meditating would be 😆
Having volume controls are a nice touch, along with charging with an Apple Watch charger. Also being able to find individual earbuds when lost is incredible (as I once lost one of my AP4 for a day)! Overall, everything sounds louder and more full with ANC, as music I usually listen to (Trance/Techno) sounds full and vibrant! Things I can't normally hear/notice with AP4 sound very crisp with APP3! I didn't think the difference between the two would be THIS apparent, but these APP3 are pretty damn incredible! Lastly, I had no idea my hearing wasn't that bad after years of being in front of speakers at festivals 😜
TL;DR: Get the APP3 if you can! They really are THAT much more improved from AP4 in so many ways!
