"It is very difficult to find a pair of wireless headphones priced lower than AirPods. In the run-up to Apple unveiling AirPods this past September, the wireless headphone market consisted of the following players"

Completely ridiculous and untrue. My $99 JBL Reflect bluetooth headphones are fantastic quality and I bought them long before AirPods were introduced.

Had an Apple Watch returned it..Not because of price because it sucks for exercising. trying to switch songs while running to manage music was impossible without stopping the run because it's such a crammed environment. And don't give me the 'make a playlist' bologna Apple, I like to switch my songs while moving. And the fact it doesn't have a cellular chip yet. booooo. Overpriced for what it is, other than a status thing.

AirPods are awesome, game changer for me, awesome exercise and superb for conference calls.

It's very difficult to find wireless headphone cheaper than Airpods. So this guy never heard of Amazon? Wait until Bluetooth 5.0 is out and the audio quality will be much different. But for a wireless headphone for workout I can deal with $20 wireless headphone, sound quality doesn't matter to me. But if I want to enjoy my music gotta use my wired headphone on a 50mm driver and relax and enjoy the music nothing else.

You know you can switch music using your earphone, not through your watch? Not sure about airpod, but my bluetooth earphone (like most) has buttons for that.

Considering there is no such thing as the "Fossil Fenix 5" the quality of this analysis is not on particularly good footing.

Not to mention of course that the Fenix and Forerunner are not "smartwatches" they are fitness and training tools with a bunch of smartwatch elements that thrown in as an afterthought.

Apple Watch is a smartwatch and a terrible fitness tool. Compared to a Fenix or even a Forerunner in the training department is like comparing a 4x4 to a minivan. Both might be able to drive on an unpaved road, but that doesn't make the minivan the vehicle you should be using.

Apple Pencil should be $69 and it should be ubiquitous, and sure multiple colors. Its too good of product to just be "Pro."

I can easily find bluetooth earphones for $20.
$300 and north for an extremely heavy weight electric watch, which expires in 2-3 years, and you call it underpriced? What year is it now? Maybe we overslept and the gold price is already $30000 an ounce nowadays?

Please link me bluetooth earphones that are feature for feature comparable to the AirPods and cost $20. No neckband, no cables, just two wireless earbuds in a charging case. For $20. I'll wait...

You know what would be better than the AirPods being "underpriced"? That they were actually available to purchase. Right now they are still 6 weeks out for delivery. Whatever the reason, it is a bit ridiculous that 3 months after released they are still so hard or difficult to mass produce. Either that or apple is artificially inflating demand by restricting the offer.

The 3rd reason could also be that demand is much higher than expected? A lot of people probably cross shop Beats X, Power Beats and the Airpods. Only one has no wires.

I was thinking of getting a pair as the EarPods fit me well. But, you cannot adjust the volume during a phone call. If there was any listening situation that require adjustments to the volume, a phone conversation would be it.

Wireless head phones for a fraction of the price of the AirPods can adjust the volume during a phone call.

Not to be that guy, but what's wrong with using your volume controls on your phone?

I think the price was fair given the competition. I have bought two pair of Earin for $249 each. My problem with the AirPods is not the price, but the look.

Apple should go for market share when they have a new product. They will be able to reduce cost over time. Eventually there will be AirPods 2 and they can sell the first generation for $99.

Sad that you think a $300 investment is a lot over two years.

How silly it is to compare wired Bluetooth headsets with the AirPods.

$159 is still too expensive for me to be lured into stark white ear pods that look like they just clipped the white cable. They appear more like really bad women's earrings.

This! The iPhone is thee gateway system. You can tell because everything is now designed and built around the iPhone and its OS. MacOS is becoming more like iOS, the iPad which can do so much more then the iPhone is still crippled with iOS, and the AirPod/watch are really only made for the iPhone. And yet there are rumors that the next iPhone price is going up (the higher selling plus model already did).

If the iPhone is the gateway drug, then the AirPod/Apple Watch is what keeps you hooked. It's more of a retention strategy. Makes you want to get the next iPhone since it's too inconvenient to leave the Apple ecosystem.

Sad that people are duped into believing that short-lived consumer electronics are an "investment."
For some people, it is. By saving a few seconds here and there - eventually adds up to a ton of time for people, which adds up to money.

And, Apple Watch has been out for two years- yet you're calling it short-lived
