I have the worst time with my airpods holding a charge. seems like they just don't want to sit in the case and charge. I'll go to put them in for my morning run, and one or the other will be dead or almost dead. so irritating. This is my 2nd set. Does anyone else have this issue?

No, mine have always charged in the case. Does the light come on when you put the AirPod in?

Had mine since launch. Have recently begun to notice that the light on mine is off sometimes when I open the case to grab an AirPod for a phone call. They also won’t connect to my phone when this happens. Haven’t checked the battery status during these events though.

I have the same issue. Mine are early editions and just started doing this. GB replaced my left AirPod still not solved so they are shipping me a new case should be here tomorrow. I'll update this thread.

    Nope.

But just from life experience using other devices with external contact chargers, it is very often helpful to clean and polish the contacts. On the Airpods this means cleaning and polishing the metal rings with a microfiber cloth. As for the case, you should be able to get a Q-tip down in there to clean the charger contacts. Also look for dirt, pocket lint, or any other debris down in there that might be blocking the contacts from making a quality connection.

Something is not right if this is your second set having battery drain issues with AirPods. Somehow there not affectively charging or not fully charging.

What I would do is power off your iPhone, power back on, then re-pair your AirPods to see if this resolves the issue.

I’ll try to make sure they’re always going to orange light when I put them back in the case. I’m just bummed because seems like most people have a painless experience. I just want to open the case in the morning and go! Maybe it’s cause I still use an 8+?

I had this happen with the first airpods I bought a year ago. Had them replaced by Apple a month or two ago. Guess what, the replacements are doing the same thing. The odd thing is sometimes after listening to music on them for a couple hours, one will show it's still fully charged, while the other is down to 70%. It's not as if one wasn't working, as I could hear the music in both ears. So for some reason, sometimes it does not show the battery drains. When that happens, and I put them back in the charging case and the light stays green because one of them is still at 100%. When that happens, the next time I use them, the one that was at 100% remains at 100%, while the other dropped from 70% to less than 10%. Weird. The only way to fix that is to only charge the drained one until it gets to 100% and then place the fully charged on back in case, and then they will both remain at 100%.

I have to like Jimmy them to get them to charge. My 2nd set, too.
