I buy the foam pads that used to come with the earbuds in the first couple gens of the iPod. Get them in bulk from eBay. With them, they stay in my ears amazingly well and much more comfortably. Without them, worthless and don't stand a chance.

Has anyone said how you answer a phone call with these?
Is it just a tap to answer? Tap to finish the call?
Is it possible to tap to skip a song?
I read that Siri can skip song and adjust volume.

From what I read, Siri controls are available with a double tap.

Eager to know more & to use with all devices easily.

Hopefully.

You can buy it and return it within 14 days. That's what I intend to do if I don't like it. My main concerns will be sound quality and how well it fits my ears.

That's my thoughts as well. At first, I said no to myself for these. Then I actually thought I might enjoy them, but need to test them first. I don't think their overpriced, but it's hard to say if I think their game changers until I can test them for fit and audio quality. I honestly think these will be a hot item when released in October.

I think ill use those ropes they use to hold a pair of glasses around your neck. that would work to hold them together

Clever.

At first, I wondered about this reasoning.

Then, of course, for outdoor use, it makes perfect sense.

No more chance of losing either one in a real active situation.

I'll be adding the rope-a-dope to my list.

Give it 6 months to a year and these will cost $99 then $79 then i wager they will settle to a measly $49 in a year or two.

Yes, prices will always go lower.

It's the perceived value that is s important.

To me.

I would be using the Airpods daily, as I do with multiple Bluetooth ear pieces now.

The value is subtle and significant.

If they work as claimed.

Am I the only one who can't get the regular earpods to stay in their ear? Ever since they've changed to them, Apple headphones have been useless to me.

I don't think the new Airpods will be for everybody. If the regular EarPods in the box are not a great fit as it is, they may not be for you. Now the EarPods fit me fine and I'm thinking on purchasing these when available. I guess the best way of seeing it is, every ear is different.

The W1 chip, if it works as advertised, is definitely a game changer... Instant pairing, longer battery life and no more audio drop outs? That's HUGE! This is exactly the type of innovation I expect from Apple. As cool as the AirPods are, I still wish I had more options besides Apple and beats because fit and sound quality varies quite a bit with earbuds and headphones.

Man those things are ugly. Who designed them, a four year old kid who cut the cords of his daddy's earbuds?

If I were to get these, they would become the most expensive kitty toy ever. I know my cat. The moment one of these falls out of my ear, the cat will swat it under the refrigerator before I even know it was missing. It doesn't matter if I lose it in the bathroom. All small swattable things end up under the fridge courtesy of kitteh.

There is always: Find my Airpods feature.

A future release.

Delayed.

Lots of people are going to lose their Airpods. I wonder how many people will actually re-buy them.
If you're unable to realise that they are about to fall out you should probably not be allowed outside unsupervised.

This is not the future, this is nothing but a giant step back! The beauty of the headphone jack is that it's an old open standard. You can still use headphones from the 80ies with a device from today. You can use the same headphones with your phone, Nintendo 3Ds, PS Vita, Laptop, Tablet, Desktop, Camera, ... everything. And it's rather small actually. Nobody cares if the iPhone is 0,5 mm thinner or not. In fact, many people wish for a phone that's a little bit thicker, so you can hold it better.

So how is it "the future" if you potentially need proprietary headphones for every device? If you need to bring 3 different headphones when you travel?

How is it the future if you can't use your headpobe for an unlimited amount of time, but need to charge them every 5 hours? What will you do an long plane or train trips? Or when you use your headphones while you work? Bring a power bank and connect them with a cable to the power bank after 5 hours? So you actually need to carry more, not less? And still have a cable?

Next, we all know, batteries get weaker over time and eventually fail after a few years. Like I said, you can still use headphones from the 80ies. I doubt the AirPods will last more than 3 years. Let's fill the planet with more toxic waste. Apple should be put on the bottom of every green company list for this.

Next, people will lose these. We lose stuff all the time, small things that are loosely attached to your years will eventually get lost. Yay, more sales for apple, even more toxic waste for the planet.

I hope these Airpods and the new iPhone will not sell well, both as a message to Apple and as a message to other vendors. This will only benefit all customers. People, please don't buy every crap just because it's new. Let me close with a reference to Fight Club: "you are not your cell phone."

No playback controls/gestures on the AirPods themselves makes this a non-starter for me.

I'm not interested in looking like a crazy person trying to "ask Siri to go to the next track" in public and pulling my phone out and fumbling around was long ago "sucky" (thus the inline mic/controls on wired models being so great...)

These are too expensive and don't replicate the features of the super cheap wired models they are supposedly "better than" - At least not for my usages anyhow.
Yes they look good but at the moment with Apple there's always a but,.

If you can double tap to activate Siri surely you could programme tap sequences for different tasks

Eg on right EarPods 1 tap to increase volume three for down

On left 1 tap to skip, three for back etc etc

Apple must be able to do it

Existing controls are excellent so Apple PLEASE just substitute taps for clicks

  • Increase playback volume: Press the +button.
  • Decrease playback volume: Press the button.
  • Play or pause a song or video: Press the center button once. Press again to resume playback.
  • Skip to the next song or chapter: Press the center button twice quickly.
  • Return to the previous song or chapter:Press the center button three times quickly.
  • Fast-forward: Press the center button twice quickly and hold.
  • Rewind: Press the center button three times quickly and hold.
  • Record a voice memo: Launch Voice Memos and press the center button. Press it again to pause or resume.

May be a but cumbersome but apple ahhhhn I love the control on my EarPods when I'm in bed or lounging my on the setee

I'm not going to speak to Siri and wake upmmynwifevwhen I want to play the next somg

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, Apple make the best looking wireless earphones you'll ever hope to see.

"Ugh, only 5 hours battery life? Form over function. Jony Ive strikes again."
Yes I think they're going too far that way now. Yes they are works of art to look at but where are the controls?? I'm not talking to Siri

I think we're going to going to see a firmware update next year that will change the control scheme. My impression is that Apple wants to crowdsource as much (anonymized) motion data from the Airpods in real life scenarios so they can work out an algorithm that will distinguish between accidental motion (pot holes for example) and an actual tap of the device.

It may sound simple, but given there's just an accelerometer or gyro in there, it ends up being a massive engineering problem and it's not like they could field test these across even hundreds of people without the product being leaked.

Launch>Analyze data>firmware update is how I see this going, if it happens at all on this generation.

Have to say these are pretty ugly and dorky looking. How come tables seem to be turning? Samsung has the more premium (and more expensive!) option in the Gear Icon X

Let's see how these perform in comparison with each other shall we?

Note: I've been waiting for the AirPods for two years now as their patents have matured.

My favorite complaint is "the current EarPods don't fit in my ear so these won't either." So? Not everyone can wear skinny jeans or hats because they don't fit. Not everyone can eat peanut butter because of allergies or meat because they are a vegetarian. Apple is making these items for the largest number of people possible. Sorry you feel left out, but no one is forcing you to use the AirPods and no one is saying that you're up the creek if you can't use them. Apple is literally giving you the option to keep using what you have been using by including an adapter in the box.

The only legitimate complaint is the charging and playing music at the same time, but there are work arounds for now until a better solution appears.

I wouldn't say that's the only legitimate complaint. For instance, how do you share audio with someone? While you're watching a movie together for instance?

It is good that these support AAC over BT. Not a whole lot of BT Headsets do.

I agree. I just don't understand why they didn't make more of this at the keynote.

I'm also quite impressed by the charge time. 3 hours in just 15 minutes? That's huge. Let's say you're on a 6 hour flight and the charge runs out 3 hours in. A 15 minute break to go to the bathroom, stretch your legs, flip through the inflight magazine, and you're back in business until the end of the flight. That's pretty amazing. The Bragi headphones take 2 hours to charge to a full 6 hour capacity. So that's at least an hour per 3 charged.

nice earrings bro
