Well. Main Street in Naperville had 9 pairs and is sold out.

I like how they have the phones setup to hang up on you if you try to call in.

Nice touch.

When you call the Apple Stores in the future, say when "Manager" when the prompts begin.

Yes, exactly. For me, I decided I wanted better sound quality, so I went with Bose SoundSport, which has a wire attaching the two ear pieces. I do think that the true wireless design of AirPods offer more freedom of movement, but I'm more than willing to live with the wire around my neck to get the sound quality of the Bose. It's an individual choice.

Thanks for the review. I like to listen to classical symphonic pieces, like the Beethoven and
Mozart concertos. Also, when I get a new earphone / headphone, I test them by listening to the Broadway cast recording of Circle of Life from the Lion King. I think the opening chorus is a good test of whether the sound provides fullness and depth.

It's interesting to hear you don't like in-ear silicone. I really love them for the feeling of secure fit I get from them. I'm afraid that the feeling of AirPods just hanging in front of your ear without a seal, as you put it, will make me feel uncomfortable, even if they never actually fall out. There's no way to tell for sure without trying them, of course. But for now, I'm happy with the Bose SoundSport. I think true wireless is the future, though, and I'm looking forward to where Apple and other manufacturers will go with this.

Well, listening to the London Phiharmonic with 50 greatest pieces, It's become clear that they are really decent for listening to classic music. Peer Gynt, Beethoven's 5 in C minor, Nocturne no2 Chopin, Gymnopedies no problem. You don't confuse them with Bose's around ear or Sennheisers momentum's, but for the size and convenience in the office, around home etc. Requiem K626 from Mozart is getting difficult, Hungarian Dance no5 from Brahms gives more trouble and muddy sound but Wagners Valkyrie: Ride of the Valkyries is where it really starts to become to difficult. You loose so many detail, bass can't keep up, mids are lacking detail. There is so much going on and these pods can't cope with that. Then again, I'm listening in silence at a desk, so why wouldn't you have a decent around the ear headphone then?

The place where these buds will shine are when walking around, in the office, doing some shopping, listening to a podcast, using them at other places where you often are interrupted. That's where they shine and become are really handy. Pull one out and the music stops and you hear everything. Pull the second out and the music stops altogether until you hit/voice command play again.
Another area where I can see them being really nice is in the car. I don't know yet how the sound quality at phone calls will be for the other side, with background noise filtering etc, but the convenience of tapping your ear for Siri commands is really nice.

BUT, and it's a big but, my right ear proximity sensor isn't working properly. When I pull out the left ear, the headset stops altogether, when I pull out my right the pause function doesn't work. When I double tap the right pod siri won't work.
The work-around is to put automatic ear detection off, but then you don't have the play pause. But Siri does work again on both ears. I'll get a new set around 6 February and can use the current set until then. They just don't seem to have many AirPods laying around.
Perhaps I'll pick up a second unit, because I do really like them.

Thanks. This gives me a really good idea of what the AirPods sound like. And it also confirms that for me, the SoundSport is the right choice at this time. The AirPods automatic pause when taking one out of your ear is nice, but I don't want one set of mediocre earphones for on the go and another for decent listening quality. I want decent sound quality on the go, so for me, all the convenient features of the AirPods don't make up for the fact that they probably don't provide the kind of sound I want.

And now, I have to listen to the Ride of the Valkyries! I have this great version where they arranged it for 8 pianos. :D

#1. Your comment has no purpose other than to be smart-alecky because while I am not going to justify my being on Macrumors during a "workday" as you put it, I can easily take 5 minutes to browse news sites and post. Not to mention that you are doing the same thing so the same can be said about your "working habits".

#2. Lining up for some headphones in the cold on an early Monday morning is an indication of poor self-worth and sheep mentality when a more convenient and more practical way to order exists.

#3. I was not commenting on the U.K. article, I was commenting on this one which shows a photo from the US. Having missed my point, I will explicitly state it for you: The mentality of lining up for a gadget started in North America so the fact that it has spread to other parts of the world only adds to the idiocy.

I am not blind to anything. My commenting doesn't stem from my supposed ignorance of these so-called facts of yours but rather it expresses my opinion of the ridiculousness behind this concept.

Boo Hoo... I'm sorry for you that you can't control or conceptualize other peoples actions or thoughts. :(

It's not a fact, which is my point.

Science denial: "I don't personally believe the earth revolves around the sun regardless of what you see through your telescope."
Differing opinions: "If you don't think they're cool then maybe you shouldn't buy them, no matter what I think."

Science denial is a scourge upon society, while acknowledging that tastes differ is not. Please don't conflate them.

My point , again, is that someone asked for some further explanation to the appeal. The replier told him to basically F off because he didn't instanty fall lockstep into the OMGITSPERFECT bandwagon. I see a pretty fair analogy in what I said. Someone thinks what Apple has done is perfect and doesn't even want someone questioning its purpose and basically tells commenter to go away. The behaviors are identical to me.

Mine were delivered yesterday from a Best Buy order on Monday. They are very nice. I have had no problems keeping them in my ears and the connection range is fantastic.

No juju. Order from Best Buy with free 2 day shipping. In stock.
Gotcha. I hadn't seen the other posts explaining the situation at Best Buy. That's funny though because that's how I got my TB MBP a month earlier than Apple could guarantee delivery.

Still none here in Jacksonville FL. The last acted like they may have gotten some yesterday but she wasn't sure and she said she didn't really know if they'd get any in before February since they are backordered. I was just like ooook then...
