So no one knows if SF stores still have any? Tempted to check after work but also dont want to waste my time if anyone knows. =)

Got mine on Best Buy's website about an hour ago!!! Free 2-day shipping arriving Thursday. So freaking stoked to have these for Christmas! After the Bs morning I had at the Apple stores this was a much needed pick me up!
I agree completely. This morning with Apple was a total let down. I am so excited Best Buy came through! Mine show arriving tomorrow preparing right now.

Count me in for a pair from Best Buy due here on the 21st (had to pay a whole 5 bucks extra to get on wednesday).

Thanks markemery!

Damn, they wanted 11 bucks from me. Was going to wait for the 29th, can wait till the 22nd.

You didn't read the fine print. They are NOT in stock at Best Buy. They will ship in February if you buy them from Best Buy.

I got two pairs (had to order each separately) delivery for Thursday-they wanted $20 for tomorrow and couldn't pull the trigger. Searching now it's showing February.

To the people that actually own these, are you having a hard time getting your AirPods to recognize your double tap?
Yes, I'm having the same problem. Wish we didn't have to use Siri to control...well, everything.

Also, I find one of my 'pods' is a little sharp where the two halves are joined together. There seems to be a bit of a ledge due to the slight irregularity. Easy fix with a nail file/buffer I guess.

Nope. I went to Stonestown at 830 am.. was third in line. They must have had about 100 or so because the 40 or so in line bought at 9 when the store opened and they still had some left. But by now they're gone. A friend called one of the stores and they checked surrounding inventory and the bay is a sea of zeros. My guess is these will be like apple pencil where you literally have to be at the front door every morning and more times than not stores won't get shipments in. Could be a long wait depending on how apple manages this one. It's so unreliable lately with product launches.

I find myself wondering that often when I browse these threads.

I don't get the AirPod hate. They don't appeal so some groups, but that doesn't mean it's a poor product. They are what they are and obviously many people (myself included) want them.

It doesn't matter the topic. Most, not all, of it is from folks who are here to compensate for a feeling of powerlessness in their lives. If you can come here and "shout" to the large group of Apple fans that they are stupid or "tell" the CEO of the most valuable and influential company on earth that he is an idiot and should be fired it gives you a temporary, though fleeting, sense of power. Sadly, being a keyboard warrior doesn't ultimately meet their need for a sense of power, so they continue to show up and troll no matter the topic. I've wanted MR to run a news article that Tim Cook saved an orphan from a burning building just to see how the trolls would struggle to still spin it in a negative light.

What I don't understand is that Apple's pack-in earbuds have been almost universally dismissed for years.

In the early days of the iPod, and maybe for the iPhone 2G and 3G, NYC subways were a sea of white cord commuters.

But the smart phone market quickly gave rise to a burgeoning headphone market, and earbuds and full headphones of all shapes, sizes, and colors overtook the white cords. This was probably partly backlash to the homogenization effect, but it was also about people seeking better sound quality and more personalized comfort than Apple could offer with cheap buds. The subway cars became a showcase for every headphone imaginable BUT Apple's.

But now people are lining up for them because they're wireless?

I predict AirPods will go the way of Apple's short lived Bluetooth headset and balanced armature earbuds. That is to say, discontinued sooner than later and destined for the discount bin, then the collector's shelf.

#1. Workday? So what are you doing during this "workday"? Oh, yeah... posting on Macrumors. Hard work, EH?
#2. Orders quickly slipped past today. yes, ordering is generally the easiest way -- but not everyone WANTS to do it that way. Why should people have to purchase things the same way YOU would?
#3. Uh, did you miss the article a few stories down with a picture of people lined up IN THE U.K.? I find it funny you specifically called out "North Americans" but missed that they were doing the same in the U.K. too...

I'm starting to think there's some "Stupidity" happening here... blind to irony, blind to typical Apple online ordering shortages, blind to the U.K. article posted just a bit ago with the same thing going on.

Get back to work.... while you still have a job.

#1. Your comment has no purpose other than to be smart-alecky because while I am not going to justify my being on Macrumors during a "workday" as you put it, I can easily take 5 minutes to browse news sites and post. Not to mention that you are doing the same thing so the same can be said about your "working habits".

#2. Lining up for some headphones in the cold on an early Monday morning is an indication of poor self-worth and sheep mentality when a more convenient and more practical way to order exists.

#3. I was not commenting on the U.K. article, I was commenting on this one which shows a photo from the US. Having missed my point, I will explicitly state it for you: The mentality of lining up for a gadget started in North America so the fact that it has spread to other parts of the world only adds to the idiocy.

I am not blind to anything. My commenting doesn't stem from my supposed ignorance of these so-called facts of yours but rather it expresses my opinion of the ridiculousness behind this concept.

hilarious that people line up to throw $150 away when you can right now buy a better pair of bluetooth headphones for $15 on amazon

Come on. The $15.00 from Amazon will not be better and you know that. It reminds me of what a guy said to me when I was thinking about getting a cheaper helmet for car racing. He said to me "Cheap Head - Cheap Helmet". He was a good salesman I realize, but it made sense. You have one life. If you can afford to get the best - go for it. If you want to spend more than $15.00 for headphones, it's OK - everything will be fine :)

Thanks for letting us all know. Thousands of purchase decisions were hanging in the balance waiting for you to explain why you're not getting them and why you're surprised people are lining up for them.

Are you surprised people line up for bra sales at Victoria's Secret? They're not for you, so surely it's got to come as a major shock.
I'm sorry... my post came off as "oh, it's about what I am doing..." I do like the Victoria's Secret 50% sales, and the girls in there think it's funny when I ask to see their bras half off. I guess it's in the delivery...

Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to point out how my post came across. The time and effort that you put into the response is appreciated, and will be used in reviewing future posts.

Yep wanna get my phone out while riding my bike...or jogging trying to get ID touch to recognise me.....or panting at Siri...
I definitely don't want to wear these while riding my bike... one of these pops off, and I'm looking for them on the side of the road.

And that's where you would be wrong.

Apple either sits out a market, or if they choose to enter one, they will spare no expense to make it a success.

My take is that the airpods represent a new market of wearables for Apple. Gen 1 is all about the form factor and getting the public to get used to the idea of wearing wireless earbuds, as well as encouraging people to use Siri more by making it accessible from your ear. Gen2+ will likely see health-tracking features and maybe expanded Siri functionality.

Expect the airpods to stick around for many years to come.

I'm surprised that there is so much press on just wireless ear phones. Seems quite inconsequential to me.

How do you know you haven't used the product? Stop guessing.
[doublepost=1482206362][/doublepost]
How is it not true? There's no mechanism to seal in sound to trap in the bass...
It handles the bass just fine. You just need to use them.

You have to understand how terrible wireless earbuds are to truly get it.

I can get it sometimes but I'm not sure exactly where to tap to get a consistent response.

Nothing. If you are not excited about this product, it's not for you then.
What is there to be excited about? I don't get it.
[doublepost=1482209018][/doublepost]
Well, let me help explain something to you. What you want and feel about a product doesn't mean that everyone else feels the same way. Obviously you don't get it because you don't want it. But many others do. Try to think a little more globally.
Just asking a simple question. Maybe I do actually want them? Trying to figure out why so much hype and demand.
[doublepost=1482209368][/doublepost]
Perhaps you've not been using bluetooth headphones with your Apple Watch and iPhone, having to un-pair re-pair when changing sources (especially annoying before a workout at the gym).
You are correct. I am searching for a reliable pair of Bluetooth headphones but am just trying to understand why these are so hyped? Does it have amazing ergos, sound quality, new tech, or great battery life? Is it just because Apple makes them? Maybe I'll buy two pairs, who knows? Any good product reviews yet?

I ordered from Best Buy this am with a February delivery date. I figured if I found them in store I would cancel it. However I just got a confirmation that they shipped and will be here Thursday. Not too bad. I didn't expect them for Christmas but happy they are coming. This is the second Apple product that Best Buy was able to deliver before Apple.
