AirPods liquid damage

Hello,

I have a quick question: Would Apple repair AirPods unfortunately damaged by a liquid spillage if I didn't buy it through them?

I brought the AirPods from John Lewis, but their guarantee doesn't include accidental damage. But if I paid for a repair by Apple, would they do it?

I don’t think they do repairs they just swap it out for a new AirPod. It’s $69 for an out of warranty replacement for each AirPod.
