The next version will be like my computer speakers, where you toggle the volume to 0 to turn them off. Have to put some bad eggs into the design so that they can get apple users to upgrade.

I call BS - you would never have bought these. I don't believe an extra 2% power draw over 10 hours is a dealbreaker for someone considering a 600 dollar headset. You're just trolling.

Typical anti-apple-hivemind. whines and screams like they are being dragged to jail over non-issues!

The case is useless and should never have been released, but you can't tell me the fact that you have to put your headset into a charger every 4 days instead of every 4 and a quarter days is an issue? OMG
Way of misrepresenting. It's 2-3% according to this article in 2 hours. This adds up, as there are numerous times a regular user would have them in between sessions.

1. Say going to work, listening, taking off, talking to colleagues, coffee etc. (1 hour listening - 30 min not)

2. Sitting and working with something at desk. Until meeting (1 hour listening - 1 hour not)

3. Back at desk until lunch (30 min listening - 1 hour not)

4. After lunch work two hours then meeting an hour, but have discussions at desk (1 hours listening - 2 hours not)

5. Going home (1 hour listening)

6. At home, making food doing stuff (2 hours not listening)

7. Listen to something before going to bed (1 hour listening- 2 hours not)

So in the end 8 and a half hours of 1% battery drain (8.5%) per day w/o the case.

That's around 2 hours of listening time. The worst is that it will be such an easy thing to forget to bring with you.

I'm another who would of designed in a power button for significantly less battery drain. For that price Apple could of designed a nice discrete power button. Maybe a nice popout button that sits flush when on, so the cups looks nice if you want to leave it on when you feel like it. Or maybe pull out the digital crown if you desire to turn it off. And those who would prefer to whine about it, would just leave it on all the time and get the same battery drain as described above.
Currently, the battery drain when not in use is much too high.

Put a power button on it and it won't drain at all. What a stupid design.

I can appreciate Apple’s desire to not complicate the design with an extra button.

But really, it wouldn’t even need a separate power button. Just add functionality to the existing two buttons (eg: press and hold both buttons simultaneously).

They already had the crown on it. Couldn't that have been the power button?

I hope they do the firmware update for that! That be great. :) Still would of liked the U1 chip in there. You really think it will be 3-5 years for a revision? They don’t need to change the entire design...
My best guess is they'll introduce new colours, kinda like Apple Watch straps. A stretch will be a new case (but Apple can be stubborn when they want to be).

Do I want to have to press a power button every time I want to turn them on and off, OR do I want to have to charge more often? I think I'd rather have an instant on device that I have to plug in every few uses. But I'll find out IRL whenever my headphones finally ship....
Yep, and having used Beats wireless studios I almost always forget to 'turn them off' and instead just set them down, which ends up draining most of the battery overnight. Figuring out a good low power mode situation is much better than a power button that you'll forget to use anyway if you only had one option.

Though I can't imaging feeling great about charging Air Pods Max up to take on a 16 hour flight knowing they're just draining from the time i put it into my bag but as most things apple I think the thought is worse than the actual experience.

That's a very stupid design. I have a Logitech headset with USB, I don't wear it that often. Another reason not to have this headset. It would be dead, the way I use it.

Just a firmware update away...
That would be a good option to add. That way, it doesn't kill the battery. The problem with rechargeable batteries, they all have the same characteristics, if you don't run them down and recharge it back up, (cycling), they go bad. All batteries do this.

My point was that an additional button isn’t needed. But keep in mind the headphones operate exactly as Apple intends, after months/years of beta testing.

It’s really quite simple: Apple decided that the small penalty in battery life to keep the headphones in regular sleep for awhile before going into deep sleep is “worth it”. “Find my” is a nice feature to have.

If it’s a deal breaker for any particular buyer, they should definitely not buy them 🤷‍♂️ Apple’s fine with that, they’re quite aware they’ll never please 100% of potential buyers, and they don’t try.

And I realize that, if you use the headsets a lot, that's OK. For me, a headset with USB is better. I don't use them a lot.

Hmm, I just thought of another possible reason for having no power button, such that the headphones remain findable for hours after you set them down: if someone were to “help” them get lost - pick them up off your desk, chair, pile of stuff at the airport, or whatever, and wander off with them, with the intention of keeping them for themselves... if there was an easy way to take them offline (by separate button, or long press, or whatever), the first thing said person would do is power them down.

I think the long time before reach ultra low power must be to enable "find my" features. but it would be nice if by software, we are able to tune the sleep settings so that we can make this enable faster. Such as maybe after 2 hours and wake up with a simple button press on the ANC button. But overall, these things can be enabled by software with firmware updates.
