Will I be able to mute one ear even if the application insists on sending audio to both ears? The context of that question is that Zoom bypasses MacOS audio and removes the balance feature. I want to buy a quality noise cancelling headphone that allows me to override Zoom overriding MacOS. Right now I am using Bose 700s and they do not allow override.

I don't think Apple knows what it's doing. Gotten too big. Too many different teams. No more coordination since SJ is gone.

The fact we are still having lightning ports on these peripherals many eons after Apple went USB-C says it all

Nonsense. USB-C is not "eons old", and Apple just added it to their first iPad last year.

I still wonder why people don't like Lightning... it's a fantastic connector. What disadvantage does it bring, other than not being "Universal"? It is universal... across the Apple ecosystem.

Hardly if half of my Apple stuff (MBP and iPad) takes USBC and the other half (phone and earphones) take Lightning.

They should just go USBC all the way, but instead they decided to "improve" the "wireless" charging.

They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Not every product they make has to be for all people.

Apple notices things like in 2020, during a pandemic, when people were losing jobs left and right, they STILL made money hand over fist.

Apple ALWAYS figures out their customer base FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL PRODUCT, and has something for (almost) everyone.

And they're well aware that NONE of their products are necessities.

Talk about inconsistency! U1 chip aside, if you look at the female connection socket of Apple's other offerings this Fall:
1- New iPad Air: USB-C
2- iPhone 12: Lightning.
3- Beats Flex: USB-C
4- AirPods Max: Lightning.

Is it a coin toss for every product or something?
I think it has to do with product positioning as it relates to functionality:

1. An iPad needs connectivity to external peripherals, as it can be a laptop replacement
2. An iPhone is somewhat self-contained and meant to be used wirelessly. I figure Apple doesn't see many needing to plug in a thumb-drive (even if I would use the heck out of that). I feel this'll be gone next year, making it port-less and cable-less
3. The Beats brand seems to me to be Apple's cross-platform brand (i.e. Windows/Android)
4. These are the cans best integrated into Apple's ecosystem

I still can't swallow the pill about the pricing of this device.

I mean, they have a nice design, compelling features, and I like the Apple Watch features they brought in this device, but it's almost $900 CAD here when including the taxes. Almost twice as expensive as most competitors' flagship headphones.

Actually while Apple has only pitched spatial awareness feature of UWB, don't forget that UWB has a much wider bandwidth than BT 5.0, so Apple can (and should) switch to UWB instead of BT for audio so we can finally have HD music without wires. It is really strange that Apple decided to not go for it. It's also strange that the bigger HomePod isn't updated with U1 yet.

My guess is Apple will put UWB chips in all 5 -- AirPods Pro 2, Max 2, HomePod 2, MacBook Pros, Apple TV -- together next year and will announce the death of Bluetooth. And now that's your hook to upgrade from perfectly fine Pro and Max AirPods.

I don't see why would they continue to use BT at all. Then every wireless music player/headphones that can work with iPhone will need to pony up an MFI fee and buy U1 chips from Apple.

lol the connection needs to get consistent in the future. Apple has to put USB C on all of their devices. It’s already a mess. The regular person doesn’t care for these mentioned reasons for having two different connections; they just want to deal with one plug and not worry about which plug goes where.

The more I read about this product, the more it looks like a four year old design finally released now.

The U1 chip is designed for locating other things with mm precision. I suspect that the Air Tags will not host a U1 chip because it just need to send out location informations, not to do the location calculations of several other devices it will be something similar to a U1-light (that can be located but not lactate other devices).

Why will you use your Air Pods Max to search for your lost keys? You use your phone for that!
