Apple products don’t have power switches. Steve Jobs never liked those and it looks like they’re continuing with that tradition.
Not true. All MacBooks have power switch, Mac Mini has one, although in the back and not immediately visible, iPhones have power switch, iPads have power switch, Magic Keyboards and trackpads have one. What are you talking about?

Well. I do have to say that this firmware for sure did not fix the draining issue while on the case. was at 92% last night and 12 hours later it's down to 81%.

When you really think about it, the AirPods Max are the absolute quintessential Apple product. Incredibly well built. Sound incredible. Certain advanced features only available in the Apple ecosystem. And, finally, operating foibles that don't make the most sense, and that take some getting used to.

They ARE incredibly well built. No 2 ways about it.

They sound excellent, with a depth of field that is just amazing considering the bit rate limitations of streamed music.

I love the volume dial, and its reversability. Spatial Audio only works with iPhones and iPads.
Hey Siri is a great feature I have gotten used to using.

Foibles like the AWFUL bra/case that does in fact use a magnet to "turn them off" (ultra low power mode) Just letting them sit on the desk and they "disconnect" and go into low power mode. (I'd love it if the time for this was customizable)

With the update, the power drain issues are totally gone for me. They act like I turned them off (with a power button) when I put them in the smart case. I’m very happy with the update. Now I am perfectly happy without an on/off switch.
Same here. Noticed a big difference so hopefulyl will stay this way.

Hey so how are owners of this travelling with them? Do you put it in its smart case and then another real case? Question 2: do you do this in public in front of other actual people

In anwser to your questions:
  1. No, just in their Smart Case.
  2. No, but when I take them out of the Smart Case in public, I hold them above my head (like Batman in your forum avatar!) and sing this little ditty:

    My SmartCase is so smart,
It’s just a work of art!
    It nicely packs
    My AirPods Max,
    And quite enthralls my heart!
So far, I’ve not heard a single person laughing at me (which, now that I think of it, might, I suppose, simply be a testament to the AirPods Max’s excellent noise cancellation).

P.S. Neither of the above answers is strictly veridical, since I’ve not yet had the opportunity to travel with them, but ask a silly question, get a silly answer. ;)

Question 2 was silly sure but question 1 was definitely serious. I can’t believe they didn’t think about what people would have to do when they travel. That smart case isn’t enough

I didn’t have a battery issue before 3C39 but since the firmware upgrade I’m now losing 1.5% an hour in the case on standby.
i’ve just called Apple Support and they told me the Apple are aware of this issue and I working on it!!!! So that means that 3C39 has not been not released to fix battery issues

I’m talking more about mobile devices and accessories, the so-called post-pc devices. The iPhone has a sleep/wake button, not a dedicated power switch. The distinction is not well defined at all, but to this day apples materials call it the sleep/wake button. I’m saying this based on this in his biography.

Apple likely wants their users to be able to just focus on using their headphones without having to think about power management.

One of their earlier statements also references the “find my” feature, which leads me to suspect that another possible explanation is that Apple wants the headphones to be discoverable in Find My longer if they are put down outside the case because they are more likely to have been misplaced if not intentionally placed in their case.

It’s still early, but as Apple is able to gather more usage data and feedback, they will be able to further refine the power management settings of the AirPods max. Hopefully to the point where users don’t even need to think about switching their headphones on and off.

That’s likely the experience Apple is working towards.

Well, it sure fixed my battery issue!

Yeah I'm still getting around a 9 or 10 percent drop over a 20 or so hour period in the case. I've done a factory reset as well. I've turned off automatic switching on my iMac (as it was a bit hit and miss of a feature on there, but I've left it switched on, on my iPhone as it works perfectly on that) and I'll see if that helps.

I'm thinking of returning mine, and getting a replacement when available and see if the replacement is any better.

Just off the phone with Apple support. Their internal support documents (updated today, according to the voice on the phone) do indeed confirm that the latest 3C39 firmware does NOT fix the 10% daily drop issue, at least not for everyone. They're working on a new firmware to fix these issues. As always, no date for release indicated.

The support guy also confirmed that it's no use send the headphones for repair/replacement, as they would only be returned to me. He had no answer as to why some have these issues, while others don't. Guess we'll never know.

So I guess the unlucky ones of us that belong to Apple's 10% daily drain club will just have to wait and see.

Thats good to hear as I am in or around the 10 percent drop club.
I ordered a replacement pair, with a view to sending one back, if one suffered the issue and the other did not (as I had them on order before hearing this and I figure there's no harm in seeing if the replacement pair is any better).

Thanks for the update:)
