It’s good Apple posts this info online, but hunting for troubleshooting tips when something goes wrong is a poor consumer experience. Especially as the requisite button press combinations/sequences, timings, and LED color flashes are not something a user can realistically memorize for all the products they own.

The traditional reset method, namely a small button you poke with a pin/pen/fingernail/etc, would be simpler.

Or even simpler, just have them always reset whenever you put them in their case or start charging them?
I hope your boss is forgiving when you make mistakes (and you have) and is willing to allow you to correct your issue after he/she just paid you money to screw things up. 🙄

TBH the only reason it has sold as much as they have it’s because it’s they are from Apple. Remove the Apple logo and put any other and it would not sell nearly as much. Some People believe whatever BS Apple’s marketing push them more than any other company.
Yeah and Sony sells because it’s name. And Microsoft sells because its name and Sennheisser sells because it’s name. All 3 of these companies do BS marketing and have made their share of junk!

No one like Apple. They probably have more blind followers with more money that sense to buy whatever they push out. Microsoft and Sony have both been punished for their mistakes (Xbox one or PS3 launches for example). Apple can get away with pretty much anything.

Then maybe you’re on the wrong forum. If you hate Apple so much you should be on a forum where you can celebrate all the perfect companies.🙄

It IS possible to love a company, AND be critical of them at the same time. Its no secret that Apple has fostered an intense fanboy community who will drop money for anything Apple produces - even if that stuff is half-baked and issue-laden.

I think disappointment is acceptable when Apple has repeatedly had major product blunders (MBP keyboards, anybody?) and more often than not refuses to directly acknowledge that they sold something that could have used a few more refinements before hitting shelves.

Thing is, Apple knows they don't have to correct some issues, because people will blindly buy the shiny anyway.

I’m having an issue were the ANC button does nothing.
They very rarely start intermittently change between ANC and Transparency on its own then stops doing that. The button isn’t physically stuck as it clicks perfectly fine.
The only way I have for changing the mode is going to control center’s sound bar tap-hold panel.

Anybody got that issue? Soft and hard resets didn’t fix it. Can’t go to the Apple Store until after Jan 11th (lockdown tentative lift date).

I hope it’s just an isolated case as I dig the headphones immensely and is actually worse than what this article pointed out.
Can you exchange them?

Ah good to know that you’re so right about Apple and anyone else who disagrees with you is a fanboy. Good Lord! 🙄

No. I hope my boss would fire me if I allowed a product to launch with a major advertised feature broken.

Don't make excuses for poor QA particularly at this price point. Apple can do better. They have in the past. Lowering the bar helps no one. This isn't a kickstarter project.

Poor QA quality? Calm down. You’re way overreacting. It’s a simple fix and a simple bug that Apple will easily address. Only because its Apple that you’re acting this way. SMH. Yeah you hope your boss would fire you. 🙄

So maybe it is just a coincidence...but I just had this happen to me on my Air Pod Pros (Not max.) I used the stem to change the mode and it only changed the mode in my right ear. Toggling it on/off again fixed it.
You know, you just reminded me the same thing happened to me once about a year ago. I popped them back in the case and that got them back in sync.

Yes I can, got AppleCare and all so it will be pretty much frictionless. But in here there’s full lockdown until January 11th, will patiently wait.

Can currently use them as the auto switching has calmed down (physical button switcher is still death) but was also curious if anybody was having similar issue because that would be annoying if it is widespread.

For me personally I can’t stress enough how great they are, especially connected to the whole ecosystem. It’s like the experience AirPods Pro++, these issues are such a boomer.

Hey Guys cool down. It's the good old Mono-Version. Stereo gonna cost you 1100$

:)))))))

It's software updatable for a reason. 🙄

Apple's wearables market ALONE is worth is $7.9 BILLION. If you made it a separate company, it would be a Fortune 130 company. They obviously know what they're doing.
c'mon, it is not a bag of french fries for 2,50$. for that amout of money it should be working out of the box just fine. otherwise it is just a kit box for early adaptors...

Mine do it almost daily with the righthand ear cup, especially when I get off a phone call and start streaming music. Not too annoyed at it yet, but I'm looking to see what Apple has to say or what they planning on doing.

**EDIT**
They are replacing mine.

You mean like the other multitude of bugs they never managed to fix? Maybe it's an easy fix, maybe it's an inherent design flaw in trying to sync up two chips, because they didn't want to have wires in the headband.

LMAO you’re being ridiculous. Apple fixes bugs ASAP if they are well known. I own multiple brands of tech and Apple by far takes care of issues. This forum...SMH
If Apple has so many problems that they won’t fix then maybe you should put your money elsewhere and join the forum of that perfect company.

I don’t hate or like Apple. I enjoy some of the products, I dislike others and some of their policies.
That’s why I can enjoy my Microsoft Surface, along with my iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro, and also my Sony wh-1000xm4 just as I can game in a PS5, or Xbox series X or Switch as I own all of them. do not have any reason to be loyal to any of those companies. I just use the devices that appeal to me, and join discussions to share thoughts on what I would like to see or issues. Apple doesn’t employ me so I have no reason to be loyal to me, just as they will do what’s better for them regardless of what any of us think

Perspective.

A $550 washing machine would be a cheap washing machine. Issues would be expected sooner or later. For a washing machine at that price point it’s okay to forgive the cheap manufacturer and say ”you get what you pay for”

Similarly, $140 Bluetooth headphones would be at the cheap end and you’d ultimately wish you’d bought the $280 ones.

But if you spend $550 out the gate, your expectations - as a consumer - must be higher. Much higher. Why settle for less? You sure didn’t pay for less.
That's true, not even because of the price, but because of the brand and expectations of the brand. You expect Apple products to just work. Having a handful of units experience ANC dropping off once does not suggest poor quality to me though. If it's widespread, where a large percentage of people are experiencing it, then I'd expect Apple to fix their software in a firmware update ASAP. I've not seen anything to suggest this is the case.

Leave it to apple to make headphones with a software issue. I miss when Apple products were relatively bug free.

Obviously not what they were saying.
Inevitable when products get more and more advanced. Gone are the days of products with just a few thousand lines of code. But we can both agree on the value in Apple continuing to improve on quality control as their products become more and more complex and advanced with legacy code and technical debt build-up sometimes manifesting in bugs.

learning from AirPods Pro, they were good, but the rattling noise was a design flaw, that took them almost a year to acknowledge. Problem when a company ventures into new territory is that it will have these design flaws.
There are no visible Apple logos on this product. Apple products come with an expectation because of what they've been known to deliver. If some other company did the same, they'd be as successful.

I understand the sentiment, but make no mistake, the forum is largely chill and reasonable people... it’s just easier for those affected or feeling affected or a low hanging fruit for bashing to jump the gun.

My experience has overall been largely top notch... defective products get replaced no questions asked, working products last a lifetime (a family member is still using a 2011 MacBook Pro that I passed on... so much for “planned obsolescence”) and my specific issue that started happening on the Airpods Max (different than this one being discussed) gives me no fear of being left in the dust with a faulty working device... it will be fixed.
