At least Apple's brand new platform, Vision Pro, got lots of love and marketing push yesterda--oh wait.

D O A
Apples September events are focused on iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. Until the Apple Vision releases (which isn’t slated until late 2025 at the earliest), there won’t be any new hardware announcements. And the only time software gets announced is WWDC, so if you’re looking for visionOS 3, you’re close to a year too early.

It was never DOA, it’s not a failed product (way too early to tell), and it’s a long game product - not short term.

That's because it's an irrelevant product that doesn't sell well. You can see this with all of Apple's 'premium' lines. The Watch Ultra is worse than the Series 10. Mac Studio is bad. List goes on and isn't new (think of Mac Pro).

You know the version numbers being an enthusiast. If you were watching that presentation wanting your first watch/headphones they 100% looked new.

Does this look like last years model on the front page of the Apple store with a coming soon?

Does this looks like a five year old product on the front page?

You know they aren't new, however, the masses logging into the Apple Store just see unreleased NEW products.

Five year old and one year old product with zero discounts full price and listed along side the actual new products. Unless you explicitly know that these products are old they are 100% being marketing as brand new.
Do you want them to add some rust or wear to the existing products they show? No it doesn’t look five years old. A picture of an iPhone 11 that’s new in the box doesn’t look five years old.

An enthusiast would know AirPods Max were released less than four years ago. Even a non enthusiast is capable of doing a Google search to find out more information about the product they’re about to spend $550 for. You are incorrect in saying that Apple is marketing these as just released products when even in that presentation, they identified what changes were made to an existing product. I can see you saying this if Apple was calling them AirPods Max 2. While technically they could do that because there are changes, it would be a bit deceptive in my opinion.

why do I have the feeling that they are just milking customers with this "refresh" and will release a proper update in December? Haven't they done that in the past with AirPods?

Not yet clear if they support any method of wired audio input, either... Obviously Apple's lightning/3.5mm adapter won't work! It could work with USB-C audio input, but I haven't seen any confirmation!
This is what I've been trying to figure out too.

Always a hair salon in here. Wish people felt this strongly about the world than a 4 year old pair of $549 headphones.

It is weird, though, given that I see them E V E R Y W H E R E now. I see them in every airport here and abroad, as well as people on the streets. It blows me away how slowly ubiquitous they've become—at least here in Chicago.

I am just so happy I don't have to spend any money to upgrade. I love my APM's. I have no issues with the case/lightning/battery/sound. Only wish is true wireless audio. Maybe a little lighter? But I would not tell a soul to pay $549 for these new ones. Get the OG's on sale.

It is funny that even the cheapest AirPods 4 now have a better chip than the Max.

I do not have the APM1 but I do have the APP2, Sony WF-1000XM4, Sony WH-1000XM4, Bowers & Wilkins Pi7, Bose QC1, and a few Sennheiser audiophile headphones. My favorite headphones are the APP2!!! I love the sound signature.

So, I was ready to buy the old APM1 over Labor Day weekend but I held out thinking that the H2 chip would make it to the APM2 (or I guess, the APM1.5 is more fitting). This is what happens when you have no competition; you get lazy and eventually that attitude gets instilled in your corporate culture. I want to get rid of the "supply chain guy" so bad...

I'm not an APM super user by any means, but I'm failing to see the disappointment in the lack of update aside from "they're 4 years old". What's missing in the APM?

The first edition sounded so good that people were waiting for the drawbacks (no power button, condensation, bra-case, weight) to be eliminated in the revision. It would be a d!ck move if they came out with another model with the H2 chip in the spring.

I had commented on every rumor saying this that it wouldn't make any sense and was crazy to suggest. Gotta accept I was wrong on this one.

Why December? They would want to get in on the Christmas rush. If anything, it would be the October Mac show, but I doubt it. This whole show seemed liked a lame holdover show till the real one, next year when Iphone Air debuts to much hype. Maybe then we get a new Max. If not, the product is done, and Apple is just selling inventory till it runs out.

The problem here is that as a headphone, sound quality is the the number one priority or at least it should be. The AirPod Max most likely sound vastly superior to the cheap AirPods 4, no amount of chips will change that because of the drivers on the airpod are not on the same level as the those on the Max.

An extremely hard sell here

They might have a new version up their sleeve for release in the Spring and this was just to meet USB-C compliance for now ... and in the meantime, buying an enormously cheaper identical model with Lightning is a much more prudent use of money anyhow.

2020 model was released in December

not only does it lack the H2 but they actually gave it the colors everyone hates that they've finally fazed out of the phone and watch....

I think they are waiting for when they feel BT 6 for lossless audio is ready for primetime, and then there will be an AirPods Ultra, and the AirPods Max will finally get a price drop to create a tier between the AIrPods Ultra and what will probably by then be the AirPods Pro 3. And hopefully Apple TV will finally get lossless streaming audio then also.

Apple should never even mention at the event Airpods max and Apple watch ultra just for these garbage "news"
Since Timmy is at the helm of Apple it has slowly becoming a soulless, beyond greedy, creepy cult like company.

Innovation has almost come at a standstill. Even Microsoft is looking more vibrant than Apple these days.

It's been 4 yrs and they couldn't think of any improvement? Lighter? A headband that doesn't snag your hair? More portable? Or, crazy thought, better drivers for better sound?

The problem with a 3T company is if a product isn't a fortune 100 company on its own, it gets treated like Cinderella

Yes, their product fragmentation is really a mess. It was always an issue with the iPads, but now they’ve started doing it with all their products.
The product fragmentation mess you mention is a reflection of the state of Apple today. The time that Apple products were synonymous to high quality best in tech products that justified their higher selling price was killed by Timmy when he took over.

I’m sure he’s a very good financial genius but he destroyed progress, creativity and all the things that set Apple apart.

I really hope we will see a new CEO soon. Someone with a vision and passion for technology.

Even when Apple was far smaller before they took the new headquarters. Their productivity and focus to detail, newer designs of products were much higher.

Today’s Apple is like a month old chewing gum which lost all its taste.
