If they sound as good as HomePod does for me in comparison to other speakers I've bought and returned, I'll be grabbing a pair! I just really like the balanced sound the HomePod offers and even at high volumes sound crystal clear and balanced.

I've bought several over the ear headphones and nothing has yet to satisfy me so I've been without headphones for awhile.

People complaining about the price will probably be happy with a pair of Sony's or Beats and that's awesome. People just hear audio differently and for me, clarity, balance and depth is one of the most important factors, followed by comfortability. Nothing worse then spending hours at work only to end up feeling head/ear fatigue.

Agreed. I too, love my HomePod and did from the start. Some people appreciate quality sound and others don't, and thats fine. Apple is rivaling high end consumer companies like Bose, B&O and other companies that are even niche. What they are doing with sound research is beyond belief.

The fact that you used the words Bose and B&O as examples of high-end audio tells me your knowledge of audiophile products is little more than zero. Do yourself favour. Get an education of real audiophile headphones that can run into thousands of dollars before you start making such ridiculous statements.

Bose. B&O. Lol. Really.

At least is isn't a $200 add-on.
That’s coming soon, I guarantee it.

Without a protective carry case, and lack of folding, these are more positioned for home use. Which makes sense if it’s competing with headphones in $500+ range.

Not a fan of these headphones.
i thought the time of big over the ear headphones was over.
If you're doing noise cancellation -- especially for those travelers on flights -- it's almost a must.

I've been using Bose for a while and like them a lot. Those were $300. I'm disappointed that these have a $250 premium. Pretty overpriced for the sector.

Really? With an army of lightning cables and lightning to 3.5 adapters out there? It doesn’t make sense to you?

no it doesnt. The whole “i have dozens of them laying around” is from people owning many iDevices and switching them more often than average user. For many the chargers, adapters etc will fail, be lost waaaaay before the actual devices become unusable.

When it comes to connector, USB-C should be the standard. Only reason Apple keeps some products on lightning is because they want to force it on you, lock in accessories etc.

I'd welcome a hefty added charge for devices deviating from the standards. Say 20% of MSRP.

Come on. Does anyone expect MKHBD or iJustine to say anything remotely critical of an Apple product? Otherwise bye-bye early review units.

Those things are like the illegitimate offspring of an Aeron office chair and an Apple Watch.

Will never watch anything from these two or anyone like them. It's really disgusting that with the alternatives available they have that kind of audience.

You can't fix stupid.

Here we are..... Now that all the trolls did and will continue to do their thing. Watch these come close or blow away the sound of headphones that cost the same or even many times more.
Conversely, watch them get schooled by cans that run hundreds less.

Ok...but people plugging in with a wire is going to be the extreme minority in the first place.

So we’re supposed to be up in arms over a subset *of a subset* of users?

You can’t bring this down to “average users” and ignore that it’s an extreme minority of them that will ever even want to plug in their *wireless* headphones.

I do not know if you are remembering correctly, but "initial" impressions of the HomePod were all over-the-top and it was being compared to full Sonos, Bose and high-end home theatre systems. The reviews literally call out that Apple is not competing with Amazon or Googles "cheaper" offerings. It is the exact opposite of what you're saying.

Engadget - "The HomePod however, sounded crisp and bright no matter the musical genre fed through it -- it rendered The Eagles as well it did Kendrick Lamar. As a reminder, there's a huge woofer and seven tweeters inside, all meant to make audio sound as vivid as possible no matter where you are in a room.

And the Echo? Well, I'll put it this way: if listening to the HomePod was like listening to a CD, then audio through the Echo sounded like AM radio. In my experience it's excellent for audiobooks, but if given the choice, I'd rather have the HomePod pump out my jams."

Yeah, that sure is a "comparison."
Sound quality, yes I agree reviewers were not comparing them to Amazon and Google but as an overall product/category they were. I always thought HomePod was a weird product. Like someone at Apple really wanted to make a good speaker but then smart speakers became popular so Apple decided to throw smarts in it. And they charged more because the audio quality was better. But the average consumer didn’t care about sound quality, they just wanted something that would answer questions and do simple tasks.

In the case of the Airpods Max it seems like Apple decided to pull down some features from audiophile level headphones in sort of a pro-sumer product. The question is if it gets compared mostly to cheaper Sony and Bose products is the sound quality going to be that much better that it will be worth the premium? And are there things it doesn’t offer that audiophiles would want making it not an option for them? For example what codecs are supported? Where is a a lossless tier of Apple Music? Why doesn’t Apple have it’s own codec similar to Qualcomm and Sony?

If Apple marketing was smart they’d be giving reviewers reference points to more expensive headphones so instead of reviewers wondering if they’re worth the premium they’d be saying wow they sound as good (or better) as [insert brand here] and they’re cheaper.
These tech reviewers have been in the business for awhile now. They should be smart enough to know that or at least do their homework if they don't. If not, they should find another job. I guess we'll have to wait for well-known audio publications for a proper review.

I know how this will come across, but save it.

iJustine is someone that I turn to for a different point of view. She looks at features and items from a point of view that almost all reviewers don't bother. She reviews tech items for the non techie, which makes her more relatable to a large portion of viewers.

There's been a number of times she's focused on features that other reviewers didn't bother to, or even laughed at. I've seen people get as excited as she does when they try out/find out about some of these features. She is the person that I turn to when I want to show my wife a review because Justine talks her language.

And yeah... she is a fangirl, she acknowledges this. But there is also a science behind her enthusiasm for all products she reviews. Many successful YouTubers, talk show hosts, display this same enthusiasm to draw you in. While some of you may dislike her enthusiasm she genuinely appears to be this energetic in general. We all know someone that is excited and enthusiastic about the little things. Something I wish I was more like and appreciate the little things like some do.

MKBHD had nothing good to say about the case, or the fact that a 3.5mm plug wasn’t included in the box.
Neither did Matthew Panzarino of Techcrunch and, to me, he's one of the most unbiased Apple product reviewers.

If you have a top notch hearing...then these are magnificent for its price
If you dont have top notch hearing... these are overpriced and not worth your money

I used to like iJustine when she first started, and then she cohosted a three day live broadcast from CES on FX (this was back when they were making a play for G4's audience) and I was shocked at how little she knew about any tech that wasn't made by Apple. I forget who the other host was but there were more than a few times when he would just stop and look at her subtly like she had just said the stupidest thing he'd ever heard.
The woman sure knows how to brand herself, but she knows jack about tech and her reviews should bot be taken seriously in the slightest.

Did anyone mention if they are bluetooth compatible? What if you want to use them for Teams/Zoom calls on a Windows 10 PC?
The Airpods are.
Yes they are Bluetooth 5.0 compatible. You can use them on your Windows PC or Android phone. You just won't be able to use all of the features of the APM on non-Apple devices.

If Apple doesn’t set the narrative it gets created for them and usually not in a good way. See: HomePod. In some respects you could compare this to the Pro Display XDR. Something that will appeal to a small segment. Can’t really compare with reference monitors but more than a prosumer wants to spend. Of course I’m not surprised Apple would start at the high(er) end and take whatever they can get before introducing a mid-range option.

Yeah imagine mentioning even casually how headphones sound in a headphone video................

(Both iJustine and CNET mentioned sound quality and noise cancelling btw)

MB does indeed very briefly references sound quality ("very good") and noise cancellation in his first impressions video, and explicitly says he will cover them at full in the upcoming review video (from the 08:00 minute mark onwards).
