LDAC and aptx HD are not lossless, mind you.

Maybe because they are trying to avoid unauthorized wireless users? Apple Music runs on devices that Apple can manage authorization on the five software platforms. This is just to provide some degree of competition to say they offer lossless audio.I am stunned that Apple didn’t consider lossless wired. Wow
Yes, this is table stakes now, which is good for everyone. It's just a confusing rollout with no hardware story to back it up. Especially revealing previously unknown deficiencies in existing products.People complain about absolutely everything. Apple is raising the tide here, no one is going backwards, this is groundwork for the future (and the now for many). Still, people complain, and how. Never ceases to amaze me.
It's the most predictable thing about this site. I'm very happy for the update but I'm using wired iems and headphones. Also it's unlike Apple to not charge extra so I'm grateful for thatPeople complain about absolutely everything. It seems most Apple “specialists” don’t know squat about the stuff they sell. I’ve overheard specialists giving out incorrect informations before when I was at the store checking out the iPhone 11 in 2019. I feel it’s rude to butt in and correct them though.I contacted Apple Support today. First the so-called Specialist said there is no port for any cable to be plugged into the AirPodsMax. Then, when I asked about Atmos support, he said that there would be support and through a cable to the Max!
I get making mistakes and we’re all happy to see course correction when it comes. In this case I’m more commenting on the timing. If a year or two had been between the items in my lists it would’ve seemed pretty normal. Then you could hope for a new remote with find my or new headphones with lossless support in the near future. With this timing it just makes it seem like these things weren’t even on their radar. If the rumors and recent history are anything to go by, Apple is slowly "undoing" their mistakes:
Maybe this will be fixed with the release of another generation of AirPods in the future.
- redesigned 14-inch/16-inch MacBook Pro will include more ports, including HDMI and MagSafe
- The butterfly keyboard has been removed from all MacBooks
I've never tried it no, its just the article said the DAC would have to support it digitally and I figure its like MQA where it transmits it to the DAC to decode.I would be surprised if your DAC didn't "support" ALAC. Most USB outputs convert at the source to PCM then the DAC processes PCM. MQA is a different beast because it needs to be unfolded to get the hires content. Thats why DACs (or a software player at least) need to support MQA. Are you sure you have to replace your DAC to play ALAC over USB? Have you tried playing a ALAC file on your computer out the USB to your DAC?
OP made a very reasonable point that has sailed directly over your head apparently. It was very clear that the headphones didn't support it when they were purchased and if it was possible it would have been done. Whats your solution, to never release an upgraded music service because some of their old products can't support it?? The entitlement on display here is breathtaking. Is it outside the realm of your ability to show some compassion to those that purchased Apple's best, high-end Audiophile headphones, and now find out that when Apple releases their Audiophile music service it won't work with their audiophile headphones?
It seems a reasonable assumption to me. Not to mention, before ripping-off customers $600 for the headphones, Apple might have let people know ahead of time that they wouldn't work with any lossless music services, even wired.
When you are as big as Apple and make as big a mess as this, you "shrug it off." You will survive...case in point, Facebook - how many breaches have they had until now? They just keep getting away with it, and so will Apple with this, and I believe, just like with the Butterfly keyboard and Trashcan Mac Pro, they will silently acknowledge the issue and release a new generation of hardware that "fixes" these shortcomings.1. This marketing tragedy is going to get even bigger than the one with XDR display stand.
It’s ****ing expensive and hyped like hell by Apple, that’s why.Apple didn’t advertise APM supporting direct digital lightning to lightning audio anyway. Why do you have that sudden expectation out of nowhere?
You call the Max old? Jesus. Apologist much.OP made a very reasonable point that has sailed directly over your head apparently. Replace “old” with “antecedent” and his point still holds. Product does the same thing it did yesterday. Unreasonable to expect it to add every new feature, especially ones that are nothing more than aural placebos. You call the Max old? Jesus. Apologist much.
