I was thinking this for while and after reading all these Airpod articles, your the only one who made the point these are actually priced lower than most anticipated. I was actually thinking the Airpods would be priced somewhere around $225.00-$250.00. With the general positive beta reviews, affordable price point and the fact this still relatively a small niche market for Bluetooth, these will likely do well. The W1 chip is the real selling point.
To put things in context, the airpods are priced at S$238 here in Singapore. There is another brand of wireless earbuds going for $500.

Pricey? Perhaps in an absolute sense. Overpriced? Doesn't really seem to be the case, considering that similar offerings are either the same price or actually more expensive.

When's the last time something like this happened to Apple? Genuinely curious as I can't really remember anything like it in recent times.

I can't recall a time where a product release
Was ultimately/inevitably delayed by Apple.

Thanks. Didn't know that. I could see how that would be a huge inconvenience.

It's a little bit different I guess, just one SKU of a wider range. Still, not unprecedented for Apple to put the brakes on something if they know it's not right.

We'll be up to iOS 10.7 by the time these come out (at the rate Apple is updating iOS 10)
It is not ok - get them right and on advertised time !!!

It is not an either or game.

What in the world is Apple doing with all the high paid engineering talent they have and continue to hire? That magical pipeline that Cook continues to spew simply carries no weight any longer. There is a growing disjoint between his rhetoric / huge engineer resources and the products we can actually purchase.
Hyperbole and nonsense has crept into Apple in recent years. And well, I agree it's not acceptable, with all the high $ r & d spend, what exactly has Apple got for it, not to mention the great resources they could have thrown at this. But it sounds like there are some serious issues for the delay to extend into the new year. They shouldn't have announced them. But I'm glad they are delayed. The last thing we want to see is samsung style issues, air pods burning customer ears for instance.

Yeppers.

I love the EarPods. I bought my first ones at the Apple HQ store in Cupertino (got a second pair later with my iPhone 6), and still use them almost daily; even on my android phone.
For 25€ they sound: okay! Way better than the old ones that came with the iPods, but that's it. They're not bad, but far from being great.

But paying 179€ for the same experience, even with some nice case, plus the fear of losing one because it fell from my ear in some bad situation is not worth the price IMHO(!). ymmv.

Okay can you provide an alternative for the same price with a W1 chip?

Definitely the year I am least excited about Apple...
I think iOS 10 is bloody good. Lots of subtle things add up to a lot - photo search is my new favourite thing I use to show how cool it is. Then the camera on the 7Plus is awesome too.
Its not a disastrous year, but I would like to be able to buy some Airpods please.

Agreed the courage of a wireless future means I have a lightning pair of headphones for my phone and a normal pair for my mac in my table. They get tangled and are not quite the elegant solution we are all awaiting.

Following the confirmation that Apple has delayed its wireless "AirPods" beyond the original late October launch window, foreign supply chain sources are now pointing towards a launch date in January 2017, and not the late 2016 estimation that many believed would help the Bluetooth device sell during the holidays.

The news comes from Chinese-language Economic Daily News (via DigiTimes), which cites market watchers who believe AirPods manufacturing supplier Inventec will see a profit boost in January because of the new launch date for the device.

Because of AirPods orders, Inventec's revenue is expected to grow 7 percent in 2017, to reach around $23.83 billion, while its earnings per share are also estimated to increase by 35 percent. Its Q4 2016 earnings will be mainly in its PC supplier business, which will "stay flat" from the third quarter output of around 4.85 million units shipped.

The connection between Inventec and AirPods first came in a report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in September. Apple then announced the device during its September 7 iPhone 7 event, where it confirmed the headphones have up to 5 hours of music playback and high-quality sound through a "seamless and automatic connection" between devices, as well as a battery case that includes up to 24 hours of charge.

Every time I spend minutes untangling the current wired EarPods, I think of how much I look forward to these.
Perhaps they will offer this in different colors by then.
Too bad Bluetooth 5 will be the new standard in early 2017.

Yes and that's simply unacceptable.

If Apple is committed to wireless, and that is the solution for cross-platform use of headphones between the headphone jackless iPhone 7 and a Mac, then Apple really needs to have the critical products necessary to make that a reality ready in the pipeline to launch, if not at the same time, then soon thereafter. The iPhone 7 has been available since September 16th. Only one W1 chipped headphone, by Beats, is currently available. Another is said to ship in two weeks, and two more, including the signature AirPods have no ETA at all.

So what is a person to do, who doesn't already have a pair of wireless headphones? Buy a temporary pair of less than optimal BT headphones that aren't particularly easy to use between multiple devices? Use the included Lightning EarPods that aren't compatible with anything else? Or use an old pair of earphones now with the inconvenience of using an adapter?

The idea that Apple has taken away an essential interface for many customers, and dropped the ball so egregiously in accommodating them with their new paradigm is embarrassing.

Lets remove something that has been around for over thirty years, for something that won't be ready for a few months, then when it comes out after the phones already out on the market... let's give it a 1 hr battery life. The next gen's Innovation will be a longer battery life..... SO INNOVATIVE - LAME!!!
[doublepost=1478252945][/doublepost]PS they're ugly too

Yeah, nobody wants these....excluding the hundreds of forum members who stated they were ready to order a pair upon release. But hey, keep spewing nonsense.

Yikes buddy, just because someone says something online doesn't mean it's true or will happen IRL. You must be new here.

Yikes Bro, I'm not new, but then again, it's nothing new reading trash posts that bash an unreleased product with nothing to contribute to the article.

Sounds a lot like your comments

Again, you struggle to stay on topic. If you want to discuss the Airpods, then please post something worth while that actually has value, not these one liner frivolous meme's.

I think , the only reason I see in Apple is concentrating too much on iPhone 7 and Plus

That really wouldn't have anything to do with the production or delay with the Airpods. The iPhone 7 has already launched and the Airpods were set to launch at the end of October. Almost two months apart from each other.

The Airpods were likely delayed to either production or technical issues were discovered. The focus of the iPhone 7 had nothing to do with the Airpods.

Right back at you, buddy.

Ping me when the Airpods are available, finally.

Until then, I'm going to enjoy the rest of this year without them.

Except...you're wrong. The Airpods are rated for five hours of usage, not one hour. It really affects your credibility when posting false information, when you can't get you're facts correct.
