AirPods Pro 2 arrived.

in laymen hierarchal terms how would you rank AirPods Pro 2 against 1 and AirPods 3?

is it like Pro 2 >>>> Pro 1 = AirPods 3
Or Pro 2 > Pro 1 >> AirPods 3

for example

looking for some indicator for people with a keen sense of sound

also are you guys gonna rock the charger case naked now that a lanyard is supported, or still gonna drop it in some silicone case?

Got mine since few hours, i think the improvement is tangible.

1) i got already the 5A377 fw. The ANC is way better than APP1.

2) a slight misalignement in one bud that you can feel with one finger. Not a big issue for the ear, i had it also in the APP1.

3) the volume slide is pretty harsh to use. I can't trigger it at the first try :-/

4) can't understand what adaptive transparency mode is

Funny how someone is comparing the AirPods Max to the AirPods Pro. That's like comparing a truck to a Mini Cooper, completely different uses.

For me, my AirPods 3 sound way better than my AirPods Max, so much so I sold my Max's and used that money to buy AirPods Pro 2. Im not sure why, but I never ever have had good audio quality that I expected from heavy over the ear headphones like the Max's are.

Im former military tho, I think my hearing is F'd, so in ear's sound way better for my situation about 99% of the time.

I've had a few hours to try them out and here are some initial observations.

Before I start FindMy still doesn't work for me despite unpairing and resetting them, so I can't comment on that functionality.

I never had the 1st Gen AirPods Pro so I can't really compare to them. However, I have AirPods Max and have owned 2nd and 3rd Gen AirPods.

- I still can't get used to Dolby Atmos, and think it sounds muddy in comparison to regular stereo. Depends on the song of course, but I rarely find a song where I'd rather listen to the DolbyAtmos version vs. stereo. AirPods Max didn't convince me of DolbyAtmos, so it was only natural the Pros wouldn't either. As per the AirPods Max and 3rd Gen AirPods, Head Tracking is a bit gimmicky - when listening to music at least.

- Bass is impressive and full given the size. Of course, it's not as deep and as rich as the AirPods Max but like someone said earlier, it's like comparing a truck to a MINI Cooper. For the size the bass is very impressive.

- Noise cancellation is great for me. According to the ear fit test the mediums provide the best seal for me. Granted, it does let more noise in than the AirPods Max, but it's still quite hard for me to get my head around how these small buds can cancel out as much noise as they do.

- Transparency mode is a highlight for me. Also being able to access quality of life changes like adaptive transparency is great. I have mild autism so loud noises can really grate on me and these have a nice way of dulling that noise, but without having to block everything out.

- The noises on the charging case are nice to have. Not essential of course (except for with FindMy, when it works for me that is) but a definite nice to have. It makes the Apple Watch charge noise when you put it on an apple watch charger! (Haven't tried it on other wireless chargers yet so it probably makes the same sound there aswell).

- The sound is improved on iOS when choosing different modes in the Headphone Accommodations section. I tend to like the 'Brightness' setting which is what I have it on. Try it out if you haven't already! Unfortunately macOS doesn't have these settings.

I like how the battery indicator stays on permanently on your phone, I assume due to the U1?

Not been out with them yet, but I did an ANC test with the kettle on, it’s way better than APP1 (and mine are fairly new as I got themselves replaced recently due to rattle), and inevitably not quite good as APM. The true test will be work tomorrow, do I dare leave my XM4 at home? We shall see. One thing over ears do that in ears never will, is deter people from talking to me when I don’t feel like talking, heh!

Not used them enough to make judgement on SQ, I presume it’s better. I didn’t use Headphone Accommodations, I find that it introduces distortion at higher volumes, although that was with APP1 admittedly.

My first impressions (coming from the original AirPods Pro):

Noise cancelling does seems better (only tried it out on a treadmill and next to a fan at home) but will withhold judgment on this until I can try them out on my very noisy underground subway commute and in a local store I frequent that plays the most annoying background music ever.

Sound quality - sound quality is good but I'm not sure if I notice a huge improvement over the original AirPods Pro. But I was also watching Youtube vlogs which probably didn't have the best sound quality to begin with so probably have to try it out with some other shows/music to actually reach a verdict on this.

Volume control - love it, I always wanted this before and always got annoyed that I had to reach for my iPhone/iPad to control the volume! Fairly easy to use for me and I quite like the ?haptic feedback I get when the volume goes up/down. For what it's worth I do have an Apple Watch and have tried setting up volume control on my watch before but got annoyed by this method for multiple reasons.

Charging with MagSafe - didn't expect to like this little feature so much but there was something really satisfying about the case just clicking onto the MagSafe charger...

Battery display on my iPhone - unexpected unadvertised feature that I love! The battery level for both the case and the AirPods show up on my iPhone now at all times - regardless of whether the case is closed with/without the AirPods in, or case is open, or AirPods are being used... This is a really nice change from the original AirPods Pro where I could only see the case battery level if the AirPods were inside it and the case was open, and once the AirPods were inside the closed case they were completely hidden from view.

So far, so good, just need to go test these out in the real world...

First impressions: comfortable and light with great ANC. I put on some talk radio in the corner of my room and ANC doesn't fully block out voices sadly, but its pretty close. Sound quality is good.

Spent an hour listening to some Hip-Hop and appreciate the extra bass when using an EQ (they sound very flat without) over previous version.

Then I put my Sony WF-1000XM3's in for 30mins and while the ANC is alot weaker (these are old), they still sound so much better. Fuller, rounder with real felt bass on my ear drums rather than just heard. My battery is getting worn on these so they need to be replaced soon but the WF-1000XM4's are not it as they are very uncomfortable (and comply tips can suck it).

If I had nothing to compare the Airpod Pro 2 with I'd be happy enough and I think many will be stoked.

I've got the Bose Quietcomfort 2 coming next week so will have a face off.

I’ve arranged for mine to be returned and replaced . I cannot get the right hand is to seal properly and pass the test so it might be an issue with that pod. I had no issues with my first gen pros sealing. Interestingly, looking at the silicon tips, one of the tips doesn’t seem to have that slight slit at the top and bottom as the rest of the tips do so that might be the reason but anyway they are being replaced.

Got my delivered today. To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed by the ANC. I did hope for more.

Coming from the Airpods Pro 1 gen. Remember when I first got them, I was very impressed by the ANC, but in time, with the firmware, it just got worse.

After more testing with different tips and getting the seal right have decided to keep them, aipods 1/2 never fitted my left ear always fell out, so only ever used one which is dumb, these don't with the L tip. Also more comfortable lying down, also really like the volume control and the transparency mode, and they do sound great.
Still think ANC could be better but I have no other in ears to test against.
My issue with AirPods max and will be again coming into summer they are hot, weight don't bother me.

Havn't tested using one while walking my dog yet, does ANC work with one?

I always found them to be a little too bright. And while comfortable, the APP2 - I don’t even notice I’m wearing them.

That said, the QC 45 is a great choice too.

I have a pair of QC35’s and do a lot of travelling for work, although fantastic, they do make my ears and head heat up so have been waiting for a good Apple pair with great ANC (Plane + Kids screaming), plus with my backpack they are bulkier/heavier than pods

I mainly listen via AP3 and APM. I do have a pair of AP2s that will be retiring. I had AirPod Pro 1s but they hurt no matter what tips I used and eventually they developed the crackling and despite replacements I never could get used to these in my ears.

I am very impressed. The sound quality is WOW amazing. Bass is very punchy. Going from AP3s to the Max to the APP2s ..... I much prefer the audio quality of the APP2s by a lot.

Noise cancellation is almost equal to my APM. Testing in a noisy room with a mobile AC (exhaust vent to window). My APP1s were not close to this. (I gave them away last year).

I spend all day on calls so comfortability is HUGE. The AirPods Max just makes me overheat even with AC running heavily. So my favorite AirPods are AirPods 3. But now.... I can't unhear the quality difference...

The volume changing is very nice and works pretty well for me. You kind of have to let it know your finger is there by resting it then move it for it to work for me consistently.

Biggest thing I noticed? Audio quality and comfortability - I could wear these all day easy.

I like these better than my AirPod Max... To me they sound better than the Max. I'll be looking to sell those.


I had my APP2s delivered via courier direct from Apple and noticed that despite ordering AppleCare+ it was not applied so I'll have to deal with that tomorrow if it doesn't fix itself. 😛

Guys you have to let your finger sliding on the border (see the picture) not in the flat part. I should say that you finger would touch half the flat part and half the border.

Easier say than done 🙂

Slow movements up/down until you feel the end of the border.

An haptic feedback confirm you the volume changes.
