Do you need a phone to do the heavy lifting for audio translation or do the AirPods do it all? That seems hard to believe

Foam tips for Airpods have been available from third-party manufacturers for some time, so you don't need to buy Airpods Pro 3 to get them.

I agree, but also think the live translation is pretty cool. A lot of the other features like ANC I feel like we only know its better because they told us it is, and is a lot because of the tips.

I had some old wired JBL's that had foam tips and the noise canceling on those was incredible.
Live translation is coming to APP2 as well via software update. That’s likely the reason it’s not listed in here.

I wonder if the foam tips will work on older APPs? I plan to upgrade but would be nice if they did.

I’m mostly curious about the translation feature—technically it should be all software—but I’m not sure whether the AirPods Pro 2 can take advantage of it. As for noise isolation, I suspect using AirPods Pro 3 ear tips could deliver pretty solid results. And of course, the AirPods Pro 3 has plenty of hardware upgrades—way more than just that.

Overall it is a good upgrade. But would have liked to see slightly longer battery life at least considering that the case is now slightly bigger.

iPhone, Location, and Language are the more limiting factors: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/introducing-airpods-pro-3-the-ultimate-audio-experience/
Live Translation with AirPods works on AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation and AirPods Pro 2 and later with the latest firmware when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running iOS 26 and later. Supports English (UK, U.S.), French (France), German, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (Spain). Later this year, Live Translation on AirPods and in Phone and FaceTime will add language support for Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified). Some features may not be available in all regions or languages. For more information, see Feature Availability.

As a european, my considerations are more towards "buying an incomplete product", which I've promised myself to never do (again). Don't have a good feeling about the "Live translation coming later...".
A tad bit dissapointed that we didn't take the step towards bluetooth 6.

So, here I am with APP G1, still considering an upgrade. Leaning more towards a yes since it's not that much money... but as way too often the expectations was too high.

Nope, not hair and not tats. What it is is that my extremities are easily cold to the touch. I'm slender.
Same here, I’m slim, 50yr, occasionally when cold I Sometimes get tingly fingers & they can appear white, my feet too. My lips when younger used to go purple!! It’s down to circulation. Using touch screen devices becomes harder the colder it gets too, drives me nuts & have destroyed an iPhone 4 through it just being unresponsive to my cold finger touches!
This link may explain a bit. Doesn’t affect me during normal day to day life at all but wrap up & thin gloves when chilly.

I’m really curious about how the translation feature will work. I can’t quite see myself wearing AirPods in another country and asking questions that way. But it would be amazing if, for example, I’m watching or listening to a podcast in another language and the software could translate it on the fly into my own language. A podcast, a documentary, a YouTube creator’s video… Do you think this will be possible, or does something like this already exist? I feel that in that case it would have huge potential.

Not everyone wears a smartwatch.

I think if you’re using both an Apple Watch and AirPods, it should be possible to get a more accurate heart rate. With two sources of data, the device could provide a more precise reading, which would also improve the accuracy of calorie tracking. I don’t think the system would rely on just one or the other.

Aauuggghhh! Translation announcement specifically said European Portuguese and now it says Brazilian. Brazil makes far more sense but I’m an American living in Portugal who was all excited!

Yes my partner has raynaud’s. Thankfully I don’t. I just have cold extremities at times.

Glad I passed on APP2. This will be a great upgrade from my APP1, which have pretty bad battery life at this point.

Also, that last minute rumor from Gurman about no major updates to noise cancellation or sound quality didn’t age very well, did it?

Didn't age well but might've been a fair assumption if Gurman had learned that the APP3 would be sticking with the H2 chip.
