I don't have a problem with this since I have an abundance of charging cables already. But what would be a good customer experience is allowing a free cable alongside the purchase for people that want/need one.
Unfortunately if you offer a free cable a lot of people will get one as a spare simply because it's free and they end up never using it.

more inconsistencies with Apple these days. The watch has a charging cable, yet the AirPods do not? Apple is just doing things willynilly. I'm also getting tired of these mass produced videos by Apple, too many cut aways and people yapping about one component of the product, hard to follow.

This is a non-issue for me. I have a lot of USB-C cables from various Apple and non-Apple devices. I don't need yet another one that comes included.

If I did need the cable, I can order it separately.
Agree. The one that came with my APP2 is still in the box... and I still have at least 5 never used lightning cables and hope that I will not end up with as many unused USBC cables in 5 years time...

Wow!! Now THAT is penny pinching at its finest to drive up profits.. still it is USB C so you hope to have at least one cable I guess? Wonder if the 1200 iPhone Pro will come with a cable? If not they may as well stick it in a paper bag and ship it to you for the worth of the rest of the stuff they cone with.

I have yet to charge my AirPods 2 with a cable. All charging has been with wireless. Selling without a cable does not affect me at all. I have multiple USB-C cables and in fact have thrown a few away. Just as I did with several excess chargers. If a person has Apple products, such as an iPhone, the person most likely has a USB-C cable or MagSafe charger.

Fo some reason this penny pinching cracks me up. It's like whenever I see the splash pages for the new iPhones and a feature is "X% recycled material", like anyone gives a chit about that when paying a super premium for a device.

This makes perfect sense. Everyone knows charging cables are very heavy and take up a lot space. This way apple can continue to keep their carbon footprint down. Apple is just trying to help the environment, it's not like their being greedy. 😂

here come all the "we all have a cable by now" comments and hopefully one day they ship the box without airpods so you can say well we all have our older airpods.... HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

you could have just typed greedy instead... :D

apple just needs users to build it themselves. unreal no charging cable. really would that hurt the bottom line Timmy?

I mean, yes it very obviously would. And considering Apple didn’t raise the price of the Pros despite ~20% inflation since the last iteration, I think it’s well worth it.

There is logic in this decision. The Apple Watch charges only from a watch sized charging puck. Unlike USB cables, customers may not have a watch charging puck (especially new Apple Watch buyers). As many people stated above, almost everyone has a USB-c cable or at worst can buy one cheaply.

Have they ever had a charging cable? I've bought every pro series and I don't remember them having a cable.

Imagine if Apple switched to USB-C when it made sense — they could have made this change five years ago and it would’ve been fine.
