Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects Apple to release new AirPods Pro this year, and he said the earbuds will have a key new feature: heart rate monitoring.

From his Power On newsletter today, with emphasis added:
As for Apple's other devices, there's a lot in the fall pipeline — though many of the new products are only incremental upgrades.

There will be Apple Watch updates, faster Vision Pro headsets and iPad Pros with the M5 processor. You should also expect new AirPods Pro earbuds (I reported earlier this year that Apple is working on a pair with heart-rate monitoring), as well as HomePod minis and Apple TV set-top boxes.
Apple already introduced a heart rate monitoring feature on the Powerbeats Pro 2 earlier this year.

When both Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds are placed in the ears, and heart rate monitoring is active, Apple says LED optical sensors pulse at over 100 times per second to measure heart rate via blood flow. The feature integrates with popular fitness apps to collect data during workouts and sync it to Apple's Health app on the iPhone.

The feature is based on the Apple Watch's heart rate sensing technology. If someone is wearing both Powerbeats Pro 2 and an Apple Watch, Apple says apps default to using Apple Watch heart rate data, and that will likely be the case for the new AirPods Pro too.

Beyond heart rate monitoring, it is likely that the next AirPods Pro will feature improved sound quality, increased active noise cancellation, design changes, and more.

The current AirPods Pro 2 launched in September 2022, and they were updated with a USB-C charging case and a few other tweaks in September 2023.

There isn't much, and its disabled in most cases anyway it seems. This is for the people who don't have a fitness watch, and also don't have a chest strap heart rate monitor.
So why would I buy a device with two useless sensors? The price isn’t going to drop just because I don’t use them, right?

(And I’m not talking about a feature I don’t want to use, I’m really talking about the sensors being disabled without me being able to do anything about it because I already have a smartwatch.)

But alright, let's see, maybe Apple has a plan?

I hope the key new feature is a matte black color option.

I'm one of those who are not fans of white electronics so I never bought any AirPods and got competitor's earbuds. Hopefully Apple moves a way from tradition and provides it as an alternative option to white.

NOBODY wants heart rate monitoring in AirPods. Imagine how much battery that might use, that could instead be replaced with……. MORE BATTERY!! Or better drivers. Literally anything besides a gimmicky feature that no one cares about.

Ahhhhhh.....NOW i understand!! The ever ongoing Gurman promotions!! Its another money making machine! And that just to get 20 new dates when stuff is, according to his glass bol, coming out.

Don’t care about health features, sensors or cameras.

I have APP 1st Gen. I will be upgrading because my ANC doesn’t work anymore, I get a speaker and go from lightning to USB-C, and I’m hoping for improved battery life: I want 7hrs for the pods and 35hrs for the case. Also, Bluetooth 5.3 or 5.4 would be an improvement over the 5.0 in the 1st Gen.

Would not say no to smaller stems and a smaller case too.

Hopefully the microphone quality of the AirPods Pro is improved. Everyone I talk to with my AirPod pro 2s say they sound like trash 😬
I don't believe this for a second. It's pure trash talking. You're telling us that the sound quality is trash, but you haven't done anything about it, such as replace them or find out what is really causing the problem? If what you claim is true, then shouldn't we be seeing innumerable posts about bad sound quality. In fact, the overwhelming comments are that the APP sound quite good.

What exactly do you mean by "get their s**t together. People make these kinds of derogatory statements with nothing to back them up. What does Apple need to specifically do to "take my money"??
Actually release them, THIS year.

Ditto the Apple TV. THIS year. No excuses.
