If they do release a new APM that only swaps lightning for USB-C, I'll be a bit disappointed. Surely there's some improvement that they could have come up with over the course of the last three years.
I would like to see are redesign of the head band. After about two years, the webbing has stretched out so you basically have two metal bars that dig into your scalp. Wearing them on the long airplane flight becomes quite uncomfortable.

And, they could do better noise canceling. I know part of us is based on software, but maybe they could do some better physical design to block out ambient noise.

Likely max life 3 years. 100= million going to landfill every year. Yikes.

Apple needs to hire a the lead guy from Framework and the entire Fairphone team.

Use both to setup an OPTIONAL product line where we can OPTIONALLY choose a thicker phone, less-sveldt ear phones for parts replaceability.

But... but... but... foreced disposability is really what Tim & Co. want because of "shareholder value".

Replaceable batteries are the worst idea possible. They make devices astronomically worse.

•less water resistant

•more prone to breakage

•less attractive design

•greater wastage from customers disposing of batteries that weren’t actually bad (inherently anti-environmental)

And by the way, tens of millions of iPhones are recycled including the batteries.

While there have been many rumors about the upcoming AirPods 4, a leaker has now shared an alleged upgrade planned for the AirPods Pro 3.

AirPods-Pro-Second-Generation.jpeg

In a post today on social media platform X, the previously-accurate leaker known as Kosutami claimed that the AirPods Pro 3 will feature "much better" active noise cancellation compared to the AirPods Pro 2, which launched nearly two years ago. However, the leaker did not provide any specific details about this alleged upgrade.

Apple already advertises the AirPods Pro 2 as featuring "up to twice as much" active noise cancellation compared to the original AirPods Pro, so the AirPods Pro 3 would be even more improved in this regard.

Apple is expected to announce both low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 models during its September 9 special event. Kosutami claimed that the AirPods Pro 3 are also coming "soon," but it is unclear if this information is accurate, as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously reported that Apple planned to release redesigned AirPods Pro in 2025.

Both the low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 are rumored to feature a revised design with better fit in the ear, improved sound quality, and an updated charging case with a USB-C port. The mid-tier AirPods 4 are also said to feature active noise cancellation, and a speaker in the charging case that can play a sound for Find My location tracking.

AirPods Max are also rumored to be updated later this year, but the only change expected is a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning.

Kosutami is known as a prototype Apple product collector, but he has occasionally shared accurate information about Apple's future plans, including details about FineWoven accessories before they launched last year. Kosutami also said that iPhone 16 Pro batteries will have a metal enclosure, and this change was later corroborated by other sources.

OK, are we *sure* that the 2nd tier AirPod 4s aren't really the AirPod Pro 3?

I'm thinking we'll see both AP 4 and AP Pro 3 announced next week.

I can't say that I'm a normal user of the AirPods, but my AirPod Pros (purchased in Feb 2022) still have plenty of battery life. The case as well? Can't imagine they'll drop off to useless in less than 6 months?

Now, considering that previously I'd managed to kill multiple bluetooth earpieces (not cheep ones either) in less than 3 months, I've been impressed with the longevity of the APPs?

When The APP3s come out, I'll likely keep these in my travel gear, charging once a month or so, then recycle them w/ Apple then they no longer can last between going to bed and falling asleep? (they're great for blocking noise from upstairs/across the hall neighbors when you need to wake up at 5am for an early appointment.)

The Achilles heel of the Pro 2s is the microphone quality, it’s pretty substandard. Hope they are able to address this, I have no issue with the current noise cancellation tech.
My understanding is that this is a codec/bandwidth issue. With calls, you need full duplex (ie, simultaneous bidirectional) audio, which is tough to do with a very low-power wireless device. You can easily do it with wires, and you can easily do it with more energy. To get it done, all Bluetooth earpieces (not just Apple) have to reduce the audio quality to make it work.

No replaceable batteries? Hard pass.
Actually AirPods Pro Gen1 and Gen2 have possibility to change batteries which are not serialised (surprise to me too).
However it requires bunch of equipment and soldering skills.

Problem as always lies in availability of good quality parts - Apple does not give a sh... about it. Technically they are available on Aliexpress - but QA is questionable I think... so it's doable but with risks.
Unreliable battery / charger / cable can lead to picks in power delivered and then device functionality or it's parts life degradation.

Definetely it should be way easier as Mother Nature cries - especially as Apple do not replace batteries in many devices but replaces device as whole (God, why!).

If so - iFixit is no longer reliable source of fixing after they tends to follow the ease of repair and have more and more poor quality documents so no surprise they used force and machine tools to cut apart AirPods Pro

I agree. If the AirPods 4 is gaining ANC, they'll probably need a way to differentiate the AirPods Pro from the AirPods 4, so a new Pro with new features makes sense. I don't buy the idea of a new entry-level AirPods when they could just drop the price of the existing AirPods 3 just like they did with the AirPods 2.

Can't say this rumor doesn't sting just a little... got a pair of AirPods Pro 2s yesterday

Are you telling me the new AirPods are gonna be better than the old ones? I can only imagine the effort this person put in to find out this information! Come on MacRunors stop being played for fools by these people. Do you seriously not understand the scam these “leakers” are playing?

I used to love my APP2s but these days they're a real pain in the rear. Despite me following the official cleaning guide, they both end up squeaking when there's any background noise. Turning off noise cancellation makes some difference but not entirely. I went into the store a couple of weeks ago but they point blank refused to see me until another day after I'd made an appointment. They really could have just seen me as I was already in there. They would have had plenty of people available to sell me a new pair.

Wow, a new product will have better features? Color me shocked.

What exactly was the point of your comment? Companies shouldn't release new products with better features? Websites like macrumors shouldn't report on them?

Sadly no, but with all the enviro-bluster that comes from Apple one can dream can't one?

I'm sure mother nature does not approve of AirPods.

It's not feasible to have replaceable batteries in a product of this form factor. Build in batteries will easily last 2-3 years, which is a reasonable lifespan for this type of product. It can be recycled at the end of its life.

You are complaining about a non-issue.

AirPods Pro need:
- better ANC
- Multipoint Bluetooth which also works with windows Laptops
- better sound quality
- longer battery life

All I want is something with the comfort and security of Beats Fit Pro, with the voice isolation of the AirPods Pro.

The current AirPods all just fall out of my ears regardless of which tips I use, especially with any activity/movement. The Beats pick up every tiny bit of background noise on calls.

Now this is a cancel culture I can get behind.

The ANC in my AirPods Pro 2 is non-existant after nearly 2 years. There is no audible difference between transparency and ANC. I hope it lasts for the lifetime of the product with the next version.

It appears you have a faulty pair. If everyone had that issue, there would be a mass recall of the product.
