WoW....

Now I know why I left these forums.....I read most of this thread, so much negativity and BS passed around.
I'll move on and enjoy my new AirPod Pros without the drama, just like I did for 3-years with my Gen 1 Airpods.

For those they got them, please enjoy and forget all this drama.....

I cannot think of a better response to all this hate and negativity.

So I've never had "truly" wireless headphones before. (My current are Bose SoundSports, which have a wire connecting the two ear-pieces.) How do you all find the truly wireless aspect? I've always wondered what people do when you need to talk with someone. I can just pull my SoundSports out of my ears and let them dangle on the cord around my neck, and then put them back in when I'm done talking. Is it a pain having to fuss with what to do with them when you need to pull them out of your ears for a couple of minutes?

My favourite part is this is a giant FU to all the smug AirPod users who sneered at the idea that anyone might like an alternative to hard plastic earpieces. I WANTED to like the originals, think the Apple integration is amazing but just couldn't wear the things.

Over 1100 comments and counting. Guess there wasn't any demand for a different design....HEY?!

What a depressingly negative opinion to hold.

So I guess the "Pro" suffix on Apple products no longer means "for the Professional".
The pro suffix is just an excuse made by Apple to justify rising prices. It’s a pro product, so it’s more expensive. The original airpods, for instance, cost $160, so by calling the new ones airpods pro they can increase the price to almost twice as much with no other reason: $250. Greedy Apple in action.

Exactly. The Pro naming only serves the purpose of justifying otherwise unjustifiable price increases.

Absolutely true... And sadly, the slight marketing twist seems to dupe a huge chunk of people and immediately convert them into defenders/evangelists/etc

Did both M and L give you a good fit according to the test?
Basically yes. I ran a few tests. A couple of times with the medium tips one side or other said the fit was not good. If I moved it it worked. But with the large tips, a good seal every time. So I think most people will be able to get a good seal wiyh one set or another.

I truly don't get this.
  1. The new ones include ANC, which moves the product into a different category. As has been argued here already, the pricing is pretty similar to other earbuds with ANC.
  2. They are still selling the old ones at the old price! If you don't want to pay extra for ANC, they have you covered!!

"lost" 'eh?

Unrelated...
I wonder how how well the noise cancellation works in a truck...say like a "delivery truck".
Supposedly, they were delivered to my office, but this is literally the info I have. I don’t know anyone in this building named “desk”.
I know a sig wasn’t required, but that’s not even trying.

First of all the original airpods were already too expensive, which is why I never bought them, and now these new airpods pro are even more expensive than the previous ones.

I haven’t seen anyone defending Apple unconditionally.

I have seen people effectively arguing that the AirPod pros are not overpriced when you compare them to competitive products.

Oh nonsense. The negative people were those for whom hard little pieces of plastic in their ears worked fine, so chose to constantly dismiss those who wished for AirPods with silicone tips - like the vast majority of wired earbuds ever made. People like that are always annoying in their selfishness: "It works for me, so why should I care if it doesn't for you"?

Apple has responded, and no doubt will sell a gazillion AP Pro's. Vindication seems pretty positive to me. I'll be picking up a set on my next US flight. If the local Apple store has them in stock!

As far as the pricing, if you don't like it, don't buy them. They aren't a cure for cancer, they're a luxury non-necessity. Complaining about the price of something that no one needs or is forced to buy truly has to meet the definition of 1st-world problem...?

100% this. This thread has taken Macrumors to a new low with some of the comments in it. We know it can be a cesspool but Christ on a bike, it’s gone lower than a worms belly now.

Personally, I love my AirPods Pro. I don’t think they’re overpriced. I don’t care that they’re only in white. I don’t care that people who want them in black can’t have them in black. I don’t care that people who want them in other colours can’t have them. I don’t care that there are people out there that can’t afford them. I don’t care that there are people out there that can afford them. None of this is any of my business. It does not matter what Apple does, it will not be right, and there will be the usual screaming little kids having tantrums and throwing their toys out the pram because they’re not getting exactly what they want. This entitled attitude is absolutely pervasive and spreads like cancer.

The could name them Airpods Peanut Butter and Jelly and the fact would remain that the Airpods Pro are priced competitively with its nearest competition, Sony WF-1000XM3

Don’t be reasonable. Don’t speak such common sense. That’s frowned upon here. You’re only allowed to make stupid, childish and churlish remarks and call everybody that you disagree with a fanboy

Had my first proper test with the noise cancellation feature. I went for a walk along a dual carriageway (four lanes altogether). Quite a busy road. The noise cancellation feature didn’t drown out all of the vehicles… I’m assuming they can’t be expected to drown out everything? Especially when I’m only a matter of a few feet away from the traffic?

This is my first foray into this sector so I’m not really sure what to expect.

I've been using ANC headphones on airplanes for years. Even my over-the-ear headphones don't drown out everything. The roar of the engines becomes a dull roar. The kid screaming from the next bank of seats is still screaming, just not as loud. The low-end frequencies are removed much more effectively than the high-end.

They are not a cone of silence.

Reviews of the Sony ANC earbuds indicated that they did well, but not as well as over-the-ear headphones. I'd be expecting the same of the AirPods Pro. But Gruber's review seems to be saying they do remarkably well.

This thread has reached SpyMac levels of maturity.

Never heard of SpyMac to be honest. You’re not telling me it’s as bad as this place? LOL
SpyMac was a rumor site/message board/forum/email-webhosting site from the early 2000’s. It was a useful place to get info but around the time of the time the first iPod mini was launched (2004ish) the forums had devolved into a constant btchfest whenever Apple released a new product. How dare they release a 80gb iPod when I just bought a 60gb last week! Why does an iPod mini cost so much when I can get x brand mp3 player for $50 less?

Mostly it was broke college kids (being barraged by non-stop apple ads on TV) complaining that things cost too much and the adults trying to explain why things aren’t free.

Glad I never saw that place. Certain parts of this forum seem to be heading that way sadly.

Not sure of the reason for the eventual demise of that site. There were a lot of good people that stayed above the fray that made the forums fun for a while.

And I get the frustration people have. I bought a iPad3 at launch and the much better 4 was launched a few months later. I bought a decked out PowerBook G4 months before the Intel switch - a $2900 paperweight almost overnight. My $500 series 0 Apple Watch bought in 2016 was essentially deprecated 2 years later in 2018 (final watchOS update).

But to be mad at a tech company for not innovating or having the latest specs, then being upset when they do, then top it off with frustration about price (which in the case of the Airpods are competitve with similar products) is just unproductive. As fruitless as the 'Jobs wouldn't have done that' posts. I've watched Keynotes where Jobs gleefully touted very expensive G4 and G5 PowerPC computers knowing that incredibly more powerful Intel machines were just around the corner. He was the guy who blamed customers for holding their iPhone 4 wrong and sold iPod socks for $29. Jobs was a great guy but Apple would be in the same general direction if he was still at the helm.
