I bought a set of APP in November. They were working fine for time, but then the ANC and the battery life got incredibly worse. Took them to the Apple Store on Friday, the rep replaced them, but they wouldn't work. He advised me to leave them in the case and leave them charging for the firmware to update. Have done that and nothing... flashing amber.

I can pair each APP individually but they're on different firmware: 2B576 and 2B588. Any advice on how to get the one on 576 to update. I've tried everything but it doesn't work. Apple Care has been beyond useless.

Try this (from another forum):

- un-sync both AirPods

- put only the new one in the charging case and connect it to your iPhone. You should see a popup on your iPhone and a red warning that there's only one AirPod.

- take the AirPod out and make sure it's connected and working

- go into settings-general-about-AirPods and take note of your firmware version (3.3.1 is the old original shipping version that needs updated, if you have this then this is definitely what's causing your problem)

- put only the one AirPod back into the charging case

- close the charging case, and plug your iPhone and the charging case in to charge. Leave them alone for an hour or two..

- take your AirPod back out so it connects and check the firmware version again. It should have updated while it was sitting there charging.

- put the other AirPod back in the case with this one, press the sync button on the back of the case. They should both connect now. If they don't, repeat this process with the second AirPod.

i was in the exact situation with the replacement buds.
But they updated on their own to matching firmware. Make sure the charge levels on the buds are high and also in the case. Keep it plugged in near the phone.

That said, this is really apple's problem to fix and not for us to troubleshoot after paying a premium price. They shouldnt be handing out buds with mismatched firmwares

Thanks for the comments. What ended up working was I just left them charging longer and two days after getting them (!) I tried to reset them again by holding the back button and it worked.

Strangely, though, there was no sign that the firmware had updated on the one with the old firmware until I did the reset.

This will work -- but eventually. In the meantime, you're stuck. As a result, I have another replacement being sent that now has to be sent back.

Same problem here. AirPods 2, both with 1A673.

they works fine separately, when I put both in the box the amber light flash. Any suggestion? Should I live them both for a while with the cable plugged?

Plug them in for 30 minutes or so. After that, hold the button on the back for a good 5-10 seconds until the start lights flashing white. LMK if that works.

I did some test yesterday and honestly i don't know how i fixed it. I put a single pod to update each one separately but that way didn't work.

I try to put both togheter for a while and eventually the light start blinking white. After that i pair, let them wired for 20 minutes and i got the last update.
