iJustine is a classic Apple shill with no tech knowledge whatsoever. Watching her "reviews" is an utter waste of time

That's honestly my take (generally) also.
More power to her making the coin and doing her thing - but it's not my cup of tea at all.

I like her. She approaches it as a regular person, and not a pretentious tech nerd.

She's not the worst of the lot. That dishonor goes to Everything Apple Pro and Karl Conrod. Then at the opposite end of the spectrum is Appleinsder and Max Tech. Apparently "Journalism" consists of reading off geek bench scores in a monotone voice.

Just got mine today here in Melbourne, Aus.

...I played my first song. I started without noise cancelling to try it out.
Hmm. Something must be wrong there's absolutely no depth to the sound.

Okay let's try a different song. Nope, same thing.

Maybe noise cancelling on will make a difference? Nope.

Then I compared them back to back with the OG AirPods. Wowee!! I just burst out laughing. THERE's my audio!

The sound quality difference is insane. Very, very disappointed in these for a $400 product.

It's a shame because, throughout my other testing I was thoroughly impressed.
The noise cancelling is incredible. Like, really really good. They fit better in my ears, are much more comfortable, much more discreet looking, less awkward, finally has a better control scheme, integrates better etc.
But in cramming all those awesome developments it seems Apple forgot about the whole point of headphones. The audio.

Real shame.

I wonder if there is something wrong with them?
It's just that every other review has mentioned they sound better than the AirPods. One reviewer even said they are better than the beats pro and Cnet (link in an above post) says the bass is better and sound definitely better. Cnet bloke reckons they not only sound as good as the Sony, but the ANC is as good as Sony's product.

Guess I'll find out tomorrow!

I haven't seen much written up about the new force sensor on the AirPods Pro - - here's an initial review from Daring Fireball:

"The force sensor — the flat section on the earbuds stem that faces forward when in your ear — is effectively a button. But it’s not a button. It doesn’t actually move, and it doesn’t provide haptic feedback. But it acts like a button and — most importantly — soundslike a button. When you press it, the AirPod Pro plays a click. I use the singular AirPod there because the click only plays in the bud whose force sensor you pressed. The effect is uncannily like clicking a real button. In a similar way to how force touch trackpads on modern MacBooks and Touch ID iPhone home buttons feel like they truly click, the AirPods Pro force sensors feel like actual clicking buttons. They actually have more of a premium clicky feel than the truly clicking buttons on Apple’s wired EarPods, even though they don’t actually click. It’s uncanny, and Apple at its best."

I will say that this is Apple’s true talent - the ability to make people rethink just what really matters to them in a product.

The iPhone traded a physical keyboard for a giant touchscreen.

The MacBook Air made people accept mediocre specs in exchange for a thin and light form factor.

The AirPods will make people willing to trade sound quality for convenience and comfort.

There's almost always a tradeoff, isn't there? My iPhone can't do what my DSLR does, but I can use it in places where I can't bring my camera. Same with AirPods, which I haven't tried yet. I have over-the-ear noise cancelling headphones, but I only use them on planes and occasionally at home late at night — they sound good, but they're uncomfortable after an hour or so.

I don't expect the new AirPods to match them, but I care about audio fidelity. I've never been satisfied with wired earbuds, partly because of quality and partly because I haven't found ones that stay put and feel comfortable. It remains to be seen if the AirPod Pros won't have those problems and if the sound will be good enough for me.

There is always a tradeoff with any product. It really boils down to how much (or how little) you are affected by that particular tradeoff.

When we “pay the Apple tax” as the critics so like to scoff, what we are actually doing is trusting Apple to make the tough decisions as to which areas to prioritise and which areas to compromise on so as to provide the best user experience possible (as defined by Apple and their idiosyncrasies).

That is what makes Apple so polarizing. They aim for product experience often times at the sacrifice of user choice. And if their idea of what you want in a product matches yours, then it is full of secret magic and delight. And if not, it can be frustration, like jogging through quicksand.

With my AirPods, I love the portability and the convenience. I love being able to slip it into my front shirt pocket or my jeans coin pouch. I love how light and comfortable they feel in my ears. Sound quality is nothing fantastic, and I find I don’t really care, for the simply reason that the best sounding headphones are moot if they are so uncomfortable to wear that I simply won’t use them.

See the trend? Just as the best camera is the one you have on you, it stands to reason that the best pair of headphones is the one you are able to carry on you at all times.

I won’t expect the AirPod Pro’s to sound all that fantastic either, and I doubt it will matter all that much to the people interested in AirPods.

When will the Apple Store app show available for pick up in store? I didn’t see it yet this morning.

It just became available for me

Just ordered mine for pickup today at the Apple Store near me. I’m hoping it’ll be available right after it opens because I have a really right window that I can pick it up.

Yep just ordered. 👍

More reviews coming in that state that the sound quality and ANC are both great on these. Already a few reviewers putting them ahead of the Sony rival product.

If true, I'd say Apple has a massive hit that will power through the holidays and beyond.

First listen, I like them, but I will miss the controls. I hate having to squeeze them. Other than that, they sound better than my originals, feel fine in the ear, and the ANC is impressive.

Been trying to find out if the new AirPods have volume control features on them similar to the Powerbeats Pro or do you control volume via iPhone or watch?

Going from the regular airpods to the pro is worth every penny for me. They feel much more secure. The transparency is a fantastic solution and the noise canceling is great. I am noticing significantly better bass response due to the obvious seal that was not present in the original. This version has cured the minor gripes I had about my original set.

I’d be interested to know if the AirPods ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) is active while not playing any media. I love using ANC without media on my Bose QC35’s for piece and quiet in noisy environments.
OK I bought the Airpods Pro this morning from San Francisco store, wore them all day. You can enable/disable ANC while not listening to anything. I mostly used it in “Tolerance” mode which enables you to hear everything from outside amplified, like you get super hearing 😂

I was afraid that I wouldn‘t like the rubber tips, I really enjoyed the original design’s perfect fit in my ears, but these ones fit the same. The rubber tips are removable and come in 3 different sizes. These rubber tips are the only physical seals for passive noise cancellation though, so when you’re not playing anything they don’t provide the same noise cancellation as over-ear headphones.

Overall, the sound is better due to these rubber tips and the ANC and is well worth the extra 50 bucks over the previous version.

The tips are very firmly affixed, was worried I was going to tear them.

Good tip here about tipping the pods towards you in the case to get them out, they are hard to grab otherwise unlike previous gen. (tip overload!).

They’re hard to get out of the case. There’s nothing to grip onto.
I haven't tried them yet, but I bet they're like the originals - - after a while you learn to press on the particular pressure point that easily twist/lifts them out of the case.
