I would rather have this issue than what happend to my pair of AirPods. Right AirPod stoped working seconds after the unboxing. Replacement on way so let's hope I'll get more lucky this time

The horror. My condolences to the whole family. Let's hope you'll get a working earphone and the nightmare will finally be over.

Gosh don't say that. That's what I'm afraid of, I just ordered mine Thursday and have 6 weeks to wait.
For reference, EarPods would fall out of my ears in a minute or two if I moved my head sideways a couple times. So these are 15-30x better, lol.

Make sure you turn off Bluetooth after using them. The case constantly looks for a signal which drains the battery. It can't do that if there's nothing to connect to.
Yes, I noticed something similar.

After I connected the AirPods to my iPhone, I also connected them with my girlfriends iPhone and also connected it to my Apple TV.

I always shut Bluetooth off when I don' t use the AirPods . My girlfriend doesn' t because she has an Apple Watch.
When we went out one day, the charge of the case went down very fast, I did not understand why. Until the end of the day my girlfriend got her iPhone out of her pocket and I lifted the lid of the case. I saw the AirPods connected to her iPhone .
After I removed the AirPods from her Bluetooth settings, battery life improved , and when I removed the AirPods from my Apple TV Bluetooth setting things improved even further.
But still about 1% drop an hour, but it seems the case is not the issue, the AirPods are. Without using them they drop to 97% and the case has to recharge them again.

I'd like a pair but they are still saying 6 weeks delivery which is ridiculous. They should be making squillions of these per day.

I can see this sort of lead times for a phone but For something so small this suggests there is a serious yield problem or they are so complex to make there is an issue.

When I can walk in and buy them I'll get some but I'm not waiting 6 weeks for ear phones which probably have not been fully sorted

This fix worked flawlessly. Was draining like crazy with no use. Did the reset, charged to full, and re-paired. Went to bed last night, woke up 6 hours later and case/AirPods still at 100% battery. Awesome.

I've been having this problem with the AirPods I received on day one. I thought It was just something I was doing until I started seeing other people complain about it.

On New Year's Eve I did an experiment. Charged the AirPods to 100%, unplugged them and went to bed. Woke up about Jan. 1st and checked them and they were 98%. Didn't use them at all or even open the case again until the next morning (Jan 2nd) and they were 78%. An hour or so later I was discussing the issue with my partner and wanted to show him what was happening and by that point they were 67%. I decided to drop by the Apple Store since it showed they had stock. By the time I got there I was at 60% and they had never once been taken out of the charging case.

I talked to a few employees who had never heard of this issue or had any AirPods returned but rather than make me wait for a Genius Bar appointment they just let me return my pair and buy another one (the last ones in stock too). I charged up the new ones to 100% before bed last night and unplugged them. It's been 7 hours now and when I just checked both the AirPods and the case were at 97%. I just tried the reset thing so we will see if that fixes things. Other than this weird issue I love them. They sound great, fit perfect in my ear and are very convenient. Hopefully the reset works.

No issues on battery life for me. Basically infinite battery since even on a day where I'm using them a lot, I'm still going to put them into the charger every couple of hours and then they charge super fast.

But during a call I had them disconnect several times and all of a sudden I was switched over to speakerphone on my iPhone. Weird.

I've only had mine since Thursday so still significant testing for me.

Could you clarify how often you are having to charge your case? I.e. do you think you are getting the advertised 24 hour extra playback time?

Sorry, but I've only had the device since Thursday. And while I've used them everyday since then, I'd have to really just intentionally not charge the case to test 24 hours of playback usage. My case is at 42% right now (and AirPods at 100%) and since I'm sitting at work with a lightning charger right here, I could just charge the case now. So whatever amount of charge I'm getting, for me it is basically infinite. With my iPhone needing a charge basically every day, I'm never going to use anywhere close to 24 hours of playback between having a convenient time to recharge my case.
But basically, yes, the case seems to hold a nice charge. I may intentionally refrain from charging it for another day or two to see how it performs, but it won't be real world usage since plugging it in is so easy.

I think the test is going to be what type of charge do these things hold in two years. Obviously they won't be valuable enough to spend money or time to replace battery.

Glad they're working well for you! As for how they're doing in two years... I have my concerns too although I imagine Apple will be shipping them in the box with iPhones by then (maybe!).

Having intentionally not charged them for a few days, I'd say that to get 24 hour of playback you would have to run through that time without much standby. By that I mean, listening and charging non-stop so you go through 24 hours in like 26 hours. And I don't think I'd get 24 hours of playback using both AirPods at the same time. I think the case uses up charge fairly quickly in standby mode. I'm at 5% this morning (from 42% yesterday) and I've charged my AirPods twice from about 50%.

That said, it is really just a ton of charge so battery life is in practice infinite. Even though I intentionally didn't charge, I can take that 5%, charge my Air Pods that are currently at 63% since I used them on my hour long commute, and I'd have plenty of juice to make it through commute home and some other travel during the day. And of course I'm at the office so I can just charge the case right now. But I think I will run it down to see how long it takes to recharge from zero.

If it's cycling through the charge at high rates though. They'll be useless in a year.

If the case loses all it's charge every 2 days. That works out at 5 complete charge cycles of the AirPods every 2 days. That is your 1000 charge cycles up in 14 months. And then you can hope to expect to hopefully still have 80% of the life remaining.

Within 18months. You're probably down to 1 hour of talk time and 2 to 3 hours of playback from the airpods. With this rate of cycling on the batteries. They're gonna be useless within 2 years.

With me it is not the charging case that is thee problem.
I tested this by not charging the case anymore until it went down to 0%.

After that I used the AirPods themselves and looked how long it would take them to reach 0%. When they are active, they are fine. But when i don' t use them, they'll drain about 7% each hour.

That explains why my case was always charging the AirPods , even when i was not using them, and the drain of the case.

Now both are at 0%, both case and AirPods are completely drained, not showing up on my iphone.
I hope this will trigger a reset or recalibration or something like that.
Disconnected the AirPods from all my i devices (forget), and i am hoping this reset will fix something.

That is exactly how Apple get their 24hours of playback time. See note 5 at the bottom of their AirPods page:

Makes you think they're aware of poor standby performance.

It's not a deal breaker. But it is quite disappointing that such a convenient isn't actually that convenient.

There really is a ton of battery life. I just doesn't make these a good device to leave in a drawer for a week and then pack for a long flight. This is probably unavoidable because of (A) the actually battery in the case is really small (and even smaller in the AirPods themselves) and (B) you want the case to "wake" really quickly so it is responsive when you open the lid. So I bet something is running in there all the time. Something is running on your iPad all the time as well when it is in sleep mode, but the battery in it is huge compared to these cases.

My case discharged all the way over four days, I think. It was discharged on Wednesday and I think I charged on Saturday, but maybe I charged on Sunday or even Monday. It was certainly more than two days though.

It will be interesting to see how long both parts hold a charge in the future. My subway commute is about 1 hour, so anything that lasts at least that long is useful to me. I've got little fear of the battery starting at 5 hours and dropping below an hour in even three years of use. Frankly though, I bet I lose one of the AirPods way before that. A case is likely going to be replaceable as well.

Just the fact that many users are constantly checking battery life and taking time out to log and track mysterious drainage problems shows you how bad Apple quality control has gotten. Customers wasting their time trying to troubleshoot manufacturing problems—that's the Apple way now.

My airpods keep charging, even when they are at 100%. There is always a little lightning symbol when I look at the pop-up screen. Is that normal?

so the first 48 hours i saw some interesting/inconsistent power draw. never the dramatic claims that i have seen from others but more than i had hoped. i ran the AirPods and the case down to 0% and let them charge over night then unplugged them and let them sit unused and unplugged all weekend. This morning i opened the case and the AirPods were 100% and the case was 96%. which seems very reasonable for 48+ hours of standby time.

The reset only shows proper operation (slower discharge) until the AirPods are connected to another device (like a Mac); once that happens, the problem starts all over again. People who aren't having issues are only connecting their AirPods to their iPhone and nothing else. The bug is in the multi-device connection. Reset and only pair it with the iPhone without using it on any other device (note that there must still be a little bit of discharge since it's always polling for a signal—but it shouldn't be anywhere near the 1%/hr. that many are reporting).

My AirPods case is stuck at 37% battery :(

I tried the reset trick, and no improvement. Any other ideas, besides take into Apple?

EDIT: found the problem. Seems like the AirPod case doesn't like being charged via my MFi-certified Belkin 2.1A charger. Strange. Never had an issue charging iPhones etc.
