Apple will begin selling AirPods in its retail stores starting on Monday, December 19, according to a retail source that shared the news with MacRumors. Apple is currently informing stores about the imminent launch and shipping product to retail locations.

Apple previously announced that AirPods would be in stores next week, but did not give specific information on when the in-store launch would take place. In addition to retail stores, carrier stores and Apple Authorized Resellers will also be receiving stock.

AirPods first went on sale online on Tuesday, December 13, but supplies were highly limited. Delivery estimates slipped to four weeks within an hour and a half, and orders placed now won't ship out for six weeks.

Customers who were lucky enough to be able to place an AirPods order right when they became available will start to receive shipments early next week, but for those who weren't able to make an order, in store purchase will be the only option for getting AirPods in time for the holidays. Apple has already started charging credit cards and shipments have already started going out in Australia ahead of December 19 delivery dates.

Given how quickly AirPods sold out online, in-store supplies are likely to be limited, but Apple says its retail locations will be receiving regular AirPods shipments going forward.

well this is good news for me because now i can stroll into my local best buy or tmobile after picking up some chickfila and grab a pair and cancel the ones i ordered scheduled for the 12th. This happens to me every launch of every product. I preorder usually getting a couple weeks out but then go to my local spots and always end up with the product day one. Hopefully I just have to go to best buy since it is the closest.

Watch bestbuy get them first in store. Thats actually where i got my wifes ipad 3. Just walked in and bought, no more than 5 mins tops.

Have any of the early testers posted about video/audio sync?

No other bluetooth speakers or headphones have cured that lag yet... but they're usually aimed at audio alone, so the issue doesn't matter. I suspect iPhone users might be a little surprised if they can't watch Youtube on the bus.

The macworld hands on video of the AirPods tested the audio syncing by watching a YouTube video and the audio was in sync with the video.

I have the PowerBeats 3 and the audio and video are in sync.

Edit: Just tested with PowerBeats 2 also, and the audio and video are in sync.

that's not entirely true. most good bluetooth audio devices use aptx and use certain techniques to line up the video with the audio.

It's solved then? My only personal experience is trying to get a quality portable solution for wireless speakers for a portable projector last year... everything non-wired (or wifi) was maddening with that fractional delay. It literally induced nausea.

I guess I'll try in store next week, since my "preparing to ship" / delivery dec 20th order suddenly turned into "processing items" / delivery dec 28th.

It would help a lot if they were black...
Maybe. They might blend in better

As opposed to cotton with strings connected to it like we've been used to for 15 years?
hey man, better sound quality with wires

I do believe it is solved, yes, assuming your device is "good enough" to support the required technologies.

By wireless, I'm assuming your portable wireless speakers used Bluetooth?
