Too bad, for all they offer in terms of convenience and user experience they still can’t match the quality/standards of consumer grade digital audio from over 40 years ago. Let alone surpass them
...that jack of all trades device.
There still extist some leftovers - yet - lets say - a bit, not really portable, but kind if "the one headphones".

Trailing wire free audiobook listening in bed made those first gen pair worthwhile. Passed them to my son when I bought the AirPods Pro, thus replacing my Bose QC30 ANC with noise cancelling for lunchtime audiobook and podcast listening on traffic filled streets.

Fantastic product line, wouldn’t be without them. Quite happy to forgive a little audio quality for the sheer convenience and ANC. Serious listening can be done at home.

I bought original Day 1 returned them soon after as they kept falling out of my ears.

Bought Pro 1 on Day 1 and with a little modification they stay in and work great.

Lost left one so sow I can buy Pro 2 on after holiday sales!

Been very happy with them looking forward to the searchable case.

I am a big fan, but have never had a seamless or "magical" experience. My first pair that I bought 6 years ago today had the issue where one would drain in the box on me. I learned to take it out and put it back sometimes to make sure it charged. Was annoying. Second pair of the same first generation didn't have the same issue, but even today I am on third gens and I have pros and I have Beats Fit Pro, it is not always the case where I jsut open the case and they connect. I often have to get into the settings and do it manually. I thought it was just my iPhone 7, but it was the same issue on my XS Max. Have not experienced it as bad now on my 12 Pro Max. But, I do have issues where it seems to just switch from my MacBook Pro to my phone without warning (although been better since Apple did a release to address it).

Point being, my relationship has been rocky with them. I love my Beats Fit Pro for running though. Best running headphones I have ever used.

Few of us are old enough to remember how amazing wireless earbuds were 40+ years ago. Great point.

Well, there weren’t wireless earbuds 40+ years ago. But there were wired earbuds. Which didn’t degrade the input before they got to the drivers.
AirPods sold many on the concept of wireless, but at what cost? Lossy AAC compression that was never necessary or part of the equation when we still had the wires.
It would be nice to see the technology truly pushed forward instead of this one step forwards one step backwards stuff. Tech in 1982 was generally pretty primitive to what we have available today. We really shouldn’t be struggling to do 16/44.1 without wires in 2022.

Mine now last a stunning 30 mins tops on a charge. Switched to the Sonys as can easily change the batteries...
Typical Apple. I had an iPod that lasted 20 minutes tops after less than a year of usage. Couldnt swap the battery. THANK GOD it was still under warranty; I got it replaced... sold it and NEVER bought another portable device from Apple since.

While there were already some wireless headphones on the market, AirPods helped to popularize the category thanks to deep integration with removing the headphone jack from Apple devices.

Fixed that for ya.

Having said that I do love my AirPods Pro.

It took more “courage” to remove the wires than the headphone jack. In retrospect it was the right move, but removing the headphone jack in the same announcement as their first all wireless headphones was cold blooded.

Oh yeah! Tim Cook also introduced Apple Watch in 2014. Thank you!

There’s been a lot of innovation under Tim too:
- 64 bit processors
- TouchID
- FaceID
- Apple silicon in iOS
- From Intel to Apple in Mac
- processors from 15 down to 4 Nmeter.
- Lightning cable
- HomeKit
- GymKit
- ECG
- PulseOx
- Heart Monitoring
- A-fib detection
- Gait Monitoring
- Fall Detection
- Crash Detection
- Satellite 911
- Apple Pay
- Apple Card
- Apple TV+
- iCloud+
- Swift
- Metal
- etc etc etc

People forget how much has been accomplished and changed since Steve died.

Edit: I forgot:
- Pencil
- Home Pod & HP Mini
- AirPods Max
- Beats lineup
- Maps
- Airtags
- Watch (Al, Fe, Ti, ceramic, and Ag) and more band materials, colors and types than the Tootsie Roll Owl can comprehend.)
and of course Apple Microfiber Cloth!

I agree! seems like it's targeted more toward the software and services instead of the hardware.
