Actually, it's probably for Wintel users who have a Airport Base Station. It would seem odd to use a wintel computer to update a airport card that is physically located inside a mac.

True, true...

Anyway, WHAT Virex issue? There seems to be no problems here...or is there?

fixed my problem

this fixed my problem! i was having trouble automatically connecting to my wireless network whenever i restarted. now its fixed!

SO GLAD...

I'm so relieved this update finally arrived. I have been having nightmares with my PowerBook's Airport Extreme Card to keep a good solid connection with my D-Link DI-614+ Rev. B as well as my school's Airport Extreme Base Station. I truly believe it's the card faultiness. But now, everything seems to be working excellent. THANK YOU SO MUCH APPLE!

Virex 7.5 was released recently for .Mac members and the quickly pulled. I read that it had a bug that was causing it to delete entire mailboxes upon finding an email with a virus attachment. Apple is suggesting that if you upgraded to 7.5, you should re-download the previous version and downgrade.

Can anyone tell me how I could go about reverting the drivers to 3.4.2... when it DID work PERFECTLY???

restart you base station by unplugging it, then plug it back in.

restart your mac, then try to connect again. make sure you are using the correct name/pass.

if that doesn't work, reset the base station with a paperclip. then login again.

still not working? hard reset your base station. restart your mac again. upload latest software to base station. 99% sure that would fix anything.

I did that several times... and it wouldn't work.

So instead, I moved my PB into another room and connected to someone else's network.. and it worked! O_O

Then I came back and tried to reconnect to my network and now it seems to be working alright...

Maybe something was wrong with the MAC addresses??? I'm so confused.

Also it seems to be running slower than before now...

Ahh..THAT Virex issue. I think I heard something minute about that, which is in turn, a big problem.

Also, speaking of updates, since this is Mac Expo week...iPod Mini Update, anyone?

Really? I could have sworn my Proteus (IM client) update came in through Software Update ... I told Proteus to check for updates and it pulled up Software Update w/an update ...

I could be wrong.

No 3rd party has access to Software Update so far. Proteus has its own updater, which looks just like Software Update, which is probably why you thought that it was using Software Update.

Yeah, of course we have all heard the talk of Office updates via "Software Update." They currently have their own updater but personally, since having Office 2004 on this computer, I have yet to have any updates for it. Kind of weird...Microsoft definetely didn't ship Office 2004 perfect, that's for sure.

I wonder if this goes some way to fix the widely reported dropped AirPort connetions that many people (including me) suffer.

Oh ok. thanks, that clarify a lot. I was confused momentarily when the headlines says "Apparently there is a Windows version of this update as well available via Windows Update." for an airport card update

Proteus has its own Software Update that looks like the OS X one.

Huh...I've been using 7.5 beta for months, now. I have yet to get an problem like that...

This isn't showing up in my Software Update. Is it only for the Airport base stations or also for the aiport cards? The post is a bit confusing. Thanks.

Kernel

yea, i updated, and after restart, i got the gray "you need to restart" blah blah blah. otherwise know as a f'n kernel panic! all is well now...airport reception/speed/connetivity unchanged. It just crashed my powerbook! Way to go apple!

me neither... but certainly had an impact on an app of mine.
The only difference I see is that I can pick up signals a little better. Instead of one or two bars in some locations, I'm picking up two or three.

Yaay!--err...

Sweet--no problems here in the first place, but an improvement is always a welcomed addition. Now maybe they can release that illusive iPod mini update that Thinksecret was talking about a week and a half ago--I'm jonesing for the newer menu.

This update might be nicer when more kids show up here at my school.

After reading these posts and especially this one, I may wait a few days to throw this update into my PowerBook.

Well...

..in fairness for the first time ever...I seem to have encountered problems following an update.

First time on restart it had a Kernel panic during the start-up proccess, just at the point it got to the desktop image, but before the folders / windows appeared.
Restart - no problems booting
Then tried to sign on with AOL and normal modem conecction ( no Airport )
Went as usual, then got a message saying AOL couldn't connect. Clicked Retry and instantly got the same message. Quit AOL, but the ' disconnecting' words in the menu bar ( top right ) wouldn't stop scrolling. Restart. -- same again. And again.
Later playing a game, and another Kernel Panic.

Any ideas??

Have had to reboot from my other partition to sign on ( with no problems )

cheers
