burnteous,
Seems likely you have at least one corrupted system file. First try repairing the hard drive using this - down where it says Try Disk Utility:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
If this doesn't help or doesn't give a permanent fix, you should reinstall OS X.

Hey,

So i've had this problem numerous times now on my macbook pro (OSX 10.6.4).

Initially adding a new location via the 'location' dropdown menu in my network preferences worked (as suggested by mrkrishnan - see above).

Occasionally rebooting the router works also.

But today, neither of those things worked. So I tried the following and, hey presto, i'm back in business:

Open Network Preferences>Assist me>Assistant>Give your new location a name (whatever you want)>hit continue>add in your internet password

And you should be back online. Well, I was at least.

I joined this forum just to post that, as this problem can be so frustrating!! Good luck.

airoport connection.

I have the same issue with Mac Book Pro OS X version 10.5.8 and nothing will help me until I get a message which says something like" Do you want configd to accept incoming connection" I click allow and problem fix. It is happened to me 3-4 times during last 10 days. Never had any problems before. What is configd file and how I can fix this problem without spending everytime 3-4 hours with "assist", turning my modem on and off and restarting my computer.

One more thing to try... this happened to me once with my iBook.

System Prefs -> Network -> Locations -> New Location

Then try configuring your network one more time from the new location. This happened to me in Panther, but nothing else seemed to explain the computer's stubborn refusal to get an IP address from the dept's Wifi network, and this, embarassingly, and for no clear reason, solved the problem.

this worked for me as well! i'm running snow leopard and it worked. i noticed you made this post in 2007. good thing it still works
