It's a great little gadget, the one thing that I found slightly annoying is that it does not support WPA personal, I had to change the settings on my Airport Extreme to the less secure WEP 128bit in order to extend my network.

Hopefully that gets resolved in a firmware update shortly.

Do any of you guys who already got your Airport Express base stations have a USB hub? If so, can you plug it in and and use a printer off that? Even better, try two printers if you have two printers.

Thanks.

I certainly hope that it will work. My wife already is on a wireless network. She wants to be able to use the same printer that I use.

I have one printer, and a usb hub.. I'll try it out when I get home, I guess I'm a little unclear on why you would need a USB hub with the express? Do you plan on having an array of printers in your living room?

Literally the living room (my dorm room). Yes. I'm hoping to get a black and white laser jet (HP LaserJet 1300) for college, but alas it only does black and white. My colour HP printer does fine, still chugging along (since 1999, I think). So for the occasional colour printouts, I can print them just fine. Since I'll be relying on a PowerBook G4 in and out the dorm, I'd much rather just go in my dorm and plug in the 23" Cinema HD and chug along without having to worry about all the myriad cables, and my roommate's PowerBook will be able to use it as well.

I ordered an Airport Express (in the US) on 7/30 which gave me an estimated ship date of 8/20. However, it shipped this morning with a delivery date of 8/6. This was from the Apple EDU store. Just wanted to post this in case people were wondering about shipping times.

WTF?! I did the same on 26 July and they gave me a ship date of 8/16 and they haven't even changed that nor shipped it.

Grrr. Apple has weird inconsistenties with shipping this year, then.

I went to the local Apple store and asked if AExp supports hubs rather than a single USB printer and the answer was no. I also have multiple printers and a scanner and would love to have them all connected through Airport but it doesn't look like that's going to happen this time around.

Sorry... :( Want me to reroute my shipment to you? :D I ordered the Monster accessory pack thing too... mainly cause I wanted a new cord for the powerbrick (hopefully it'll work with my iBook powerbrick). That shouldn't have made a difference but...

Oh man, I figured out why I didn't get the Express... a former "friend" broke into my house while I was away on vacation. They stole my new AirPort Express before I even got to use it!

I ordered mine 20th July with an esitamted shipping date of 17th Aug. It shipped on Monday and should be here on Friday.

Not sure why this happened. I did do 3 seperate orders at the same time, an AE base station, a 4g 40gb iPod, and a load of accessories for the iPod and iLife.

Perhaps they were rewarding me:)

Probably cocked up at someone else's expense... sorry whoever you are

Well at least you ordered a few days before me. It's just weird. I called Apple and they said all was well.

Oh well, I don't need it until late August anyway.

Oh man. That seriously blows. Indeed a `friend` he is. :\ Did you get it back?

Macmall has them in stock..

As of this morning, 8/4, they have 197 in stock.
Anyone about to order from Apple may want to order from them instead.

It's alive... :D

Yeah, I was using AirTunes, surfing the web and printing within five minutes of pulling it out of the box.

Okay I didn't really need to print anything but I just wanted to do it so I could say that I could

Airport Setup XP

I love Apple, I have an old G5 at work (with new 2.5 and 30" soon), and have always enjoyed their plug and play technology.

At home I have 3 XP computers running on a Belkin 54g network, and so AX was to join this network.

The assistant that came with AX could not see my network, as far as I could see this was because it was not an Apple Airport network.

I had to set AX up manually which took 4 hours and a lot of help from the apple discusion boards.

Now its working it is great, I love it..... but this has been the hardest wireless device I have added to the network.... Its a shame that this will be the impression of many new apple product users who are currently on windows.

When setting up my other half made fun that apple products are so easy to setup and use, now working he thinks iTunes is the best program since sliced bread...... wait until I get my new powerbook

CDW

Just a heads up:

I decided to pick one of these bad boys up, and I went to macwarehouse.com (which is now cdw.com) on Tues. Paid for standard ground shipping, and here it is Thursday night and I am posting this thru my new AExpress! So if anyone needs it now now now, they seem to have plenty in stock and they ship the day you order it. Also, its a few bucks cheaper AND you dont pay any sales tax-- a decent savings from the Apple Store.

good luck

I tried to be a loyal supporter of my local Apple store and buy from them but they were on a wait list for AExpress so then I tried the online store which has a 2-3 week wait and how knows how long that really is. So I ended up going down the street to CompUSA and walking out of there with one that day.

Craziness

So I got tired of waiting for the Airport Express and went ahead and bought two at the Richmond, VA Apple Store while I was in the vinicity. One was for my brother and one was for me.

I return home after 9 hours worth of driving that day and set it up and etc., then I crashed and woke up. Got an e-mail this morning that it had shipped.

Since my brother'll pay me for his, I'm stuck with two for myself.

Not sure what to do with the extra one, keep it (good idea, for the two printers, but that's quite expensive just for another printer), sell it, return it, hold a raffle :)D), etc.

AE Range

I set one one up at a friends house and was very disappointed at the range. We took her PB two rooms from the AE-about 25 feet- and the signal bars dropped down to the lowest indicator.

Interesting. Range at my house is pretty good, I can get around the house, and that's saying a lot. Now I wonder what to do with the second one that's arriving today. Keep, raffle, ebay, bah. :p
