Got mine today and set up a wireless network with my powerbook and my partners ibook. What a fantastic peice of technology! This really is a life changing product. I'm writing this from my garden, just because I can! :)

I'm looking forward to Apple integrating this with their dvd player so I can watch movies with great sound and no cables.

Pics!

I forgot to post a pic of my set of Airport Expresses. I ordered one on the online Apple Store and it'd never ship so I went to theme parks in VA and stopped by the Richmond Apple Store and bought two because my brother wanted me to pick up one for him. I got one for myself because I couldn't wait either. I arrived home and alas, they had begun shipping my web order. So I had three. I donated the extra one to a good friend of mine.

Anybody want mine? Other than an ethernet hub, I see no real value in the little box. It doesn't connect to anything I have, including my laptop.

Makes a nice night light, however.

I detect some frustration. You having som config issues?

There is a misprint in the instructions, to reset using a paperclip, hold for 5 seconds until the light flashed green, not the 1 second printed.

I have two roomates and am running a WDS with an AEBS and two Expresses, and after a tiny little struggle with setting up the WDS (tried doing it the hard way - manually. My fault), the six laptops (five in varying versions of Windows) and three desktops (one a Mac) between us all connect with no trouble - and damn is the reception good!

How much do you want for your AirPort Express? My wife really wants one so that she can use her 15" PB on the 1st floor. She uses it for work also.

MacCoaster, your friend is very lucky indeed. I hope that he appreciates your generosity.

After four hours reading the Apple discussion forums, and two hours on the phone with Apple support, the AE has been returned. Hey, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

I should have known better. I first visited this forum in December of last year waiting for an announcement of upgraded G5s. Its nine months later and I still haven't spent a penny with Apple all year (now that the AE has been returned).

So, why doesn't it work?

Just curious... but, what were the symptoms or the particulars or the AEx not working? And why not just exchange it? Thanks for participating.

I recently converted my girlfriend from Dell to Apple where she just bought a 15" 1.5 Ghz Powerbook with an AEx...I took me a WHOPPING 20 seconds to get it out of the box and, without even opening the manual, connect to the internet. Compare that to setting up her brother's dell laptop and a dell wireless router, I wasted 2 hours just trying to figure out what to do by reading the manual...I quit the assignment and havn't hooked up the dell yet. I am thoroughly satisfied with AEx!!

Whilst that way cool the network you have setup has absolutely no security meaning all your traffic inclusing usernames and passwords can be seen by someone with a little knowledge AND your computers and internet access can be used/accessed by others.

I suggest that you take a look at the manual and use the software utilities to setup the AX properly with WPA encryption (or WEP if windows wireless machines need to attach) plus passwords for your AX and network access. Its pretty easy to do - hardest bit is thinking about passwords. Add the passwords to your key chain and you will never have to worry about them again (hopefully).

^^^ Thanks a lot...good thing she hasn't left for college yet!! I'll go read the manual now!!
