That's an interesting piece of technical advice. I've always assumed you can configure an Airport Extreme base station to 802.11n at 2.4 GHz based on the attached screen shot of my current system.

it is interesting it seems that the newer extremes actually have lost the ability, maybe it might be worth getting an older model y2flyy if you really need this?

eitherway though did you get it to work?

No I did not Drummer, I'll just wait until my 5ghz Bridges come in.

Does anyone know if the tech from Apple was correct saying all wireless N adapters automatically work on 5 ghz band as well?

I think i have found a way too force the 5ghz mode, if you select the wireless options tab in the airport utility under wireless you can select a name for the 5ghz band. Then select that access point name in your airport wifi.

Thanks for your input chris but the issue is not forcing 5ghz mode....its forcing wireless n only mode in the 2.4 ghz band

Update....

Got my 5 ghz bridge in. Works great!
With only Wireless N on 5hz. Speeds are incredible. 270-300 Mbps

Thanks for all of your help!

that's great, I get similar speeds myself it's a real step up especialy when transferring files around the network

Glad it worked out in the end and I'm sure this thread will help someone in the future

ps if you post your set-up in the forum, PM me because it'd be cool to see it after thinking about it for so long!
