Aside from the N talk..

Anyone know how to fix the firewall issues this security update has brought?

Has anyone else even experienced this?

I guess this could end up as a new/separate topic. But for anyone interested, the update has been reposted. Just downloaded and installed.
Still said "V1.0" however..

Just installed the re-posted update on my MacBook (early 2008).

Installed fine, and now under the Network Utility, it lists my adapter as (802.11 a/b/g/n) whereas after the first update it didn't list 'n'.

Airport Extreme Update 2008-004

The successor to the infamous 21st October update is now available for download via Software Update.

Airport Extreme Update 2008-004
'This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS 10.5.5 and resolves some issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large Wi-Fi networks.'

Restart Required.

Just installed it - it fixed the issue the previous (pulled?) one did. I can now enable the OS X firewall and my AirPort is fine.

this may sound like a stupid question, but... I just bought my macbook pro. If I want to use wireless "N", do I need to buy this? http://store.apple.com/us/product/D4141ZM/A

No. That was for N enabled Mac's back when N wasn't officially released but Apple included N on the AirPort chips and had to charge customers to unlock it as a license agreement or something along those lines.

Since then, all Macs shipped (that have N capable cards) are unlocked and you don't need it.

Got the new update just now. No problems with it, but I had no problems with the previous update either. Of course, I don't use Airport Extreme at all. I keep it turned off. I just love downloading updates I guess....:D

Yikes, I never thought I'd say this but think I'll wait until until I know for sure this works.

N is back in the description on my MB with 004. 003 was 2.1.3 and 004 is 2.1.4.

(Though I don't have the AEBS yet so I can't test N)

I still only get 1.5MB/s transfer rate from my MacBook Pro to my MacBook via my Netgear router.

Yes, they are all running in N mode. :(

That can't be right. That's only about 12 mbps, which is nearer B mode. Try downloading the application AP Grapher. It is excellent. In addition to telling you what wireless signals are available near you, it will tell you the connection speed your computer is currently achieving over the link. In N I almost always see 130 mbps when close, but it drops to 104 after about 20 feet. If I go far away (50 feet) I may get only 12-20. This is with airport extreme.

Anyway, get the app and install it on both your laptops and see what they each report.

Guys, can you help me out? I hope the pulled update caused it, but I can't connect to Software Update anymore, so I can't get the new update.

Does anyone have a direct download link to the update? I would be very grateful.

Just did the update this morning. I don't notice any problems, yet.

Update 004 is now availible

Airport Extreme Update 004 just showed up in my software update. . . Hopefully this fixes the issues I now have with 003.

MPB 2.5hz, 250gb, 2gb RAM

I only use airport for AirTunes streaming. Ever since this update, the connection has been dropping regularly.:(:(:(

My family is annoyed with the loss of music in our kitchen because of it.

Just installed 004 only to find that running "sudo ifconfig en1 up" no longer works. Strangely enough, the "down" command works, not "up". Extremely annoying, as I use this command regularly to switch off/on wireless regularly.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Hopefully this fixes the random drop offs I get at night.

EDIT: Just read the other posts. I think I need people's confirmation that this will not kill my connectivity.

My connectivity is fine (and always has been prior to this) but see my post above about ifconfig no longer letting me bring the interface back up with the terminal.
