I'm not connected via AirPort (ethernet instead as I'm at my desk) but looking at en1 in Network Utility still says n and when I was using 802.11 last night everything was fine.

And why on Earth would you want to download an update that has been pulled by Apple? Masochism?

I installed it on a Mac Mini 1.66 GHz Core Duo with 2 GB RAM and have had zero problems. If you don't feel safe installing it, don't. :)

No. Curiousity, bravery, daring. Call it whatever you want. It could be called stupidity, but I guess to each their own. I installed it on a Mac Mini 1.66 GHz Core Duo with 2 GB RAM and have had zero problems.

Well it seems that the update has some odd behavior regarding wireless N, you wouldn't have that problem with a mini since they only have G.

I could be wrong but I don't think there's a built-in Airport card that's 802.11n in any PPC model.

But there are still WIFI dropout issues on PowerPC Macs in Leopard, a problem I never had in Tiger.

My router antenna is very close to my G5 and WIFI never got booted under Tiger, yet I wake up in the morning often and check my G5 in Leopard and bingo, I've been booted or disconnected at some point overnight. Don't have this issue in Tiger.

Somehow I doubt it that Apple would care about a possible problem you might experience with your Hackintosh after applying an update :)

Don't be silly. Of course Apple cares. After all, isn't it obvious what hardware Apple has tested this update on now before unleashing it into the wild as opposed to actual Apple hardware?

Ok, since updating safari became slooooooooooooooowwww, and wouldn't load some pages, telling me the server stopped responding. Any way i can revert?

Same here. Used to have a/b/g/n but now it's just a/b/g

Should I contact Apple, or lie low for a few days and see if a fix comes?

But what is your link speed/transmit rate? are you sure you're not using wireless N? cause mine shows a/b/g like yours but my link speed is 130 Mbit/s and transmit rate is somewhere between 110 and 130

Same here, only shows a/b/g but my Link Speed is 270 Mbit/s. Same as when I view the extended options in the airport menu.

my transmit rate has been bouncing between 45-54.... ?

OF COURSE you should wait for a fix. Apple is going to post it again, or provide a patch for those unfortunate few that installed it...just wait a couple of days.

Earlier I reported that my Blackbook was fine, but it seems my wireless n may have been disabled by this update as I can't seem to connect to my time capsule, which broadcasts an n only network. Not confirmed this yet but I see no other reason why my lappy would default to my a/b/g network rather than the TC, when the TC is much closer.

Installed the update last night, and I have had no problems (at least so far...). I am connected to my Wireless-N only network with my MBP (June 2007).

EDIT: Just checked network utility, and mine still says "Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g/n)" under model.

FIX for 2008-003 Airport update

Hi :apple::apple:s,

If you, like I did, immediately installed the update and regretted it after a reboot, here's the fixer:

Force reboot if your menubar Airport button hangs (coloured blue).
Open Onyx and in the tab Cleaning check clean Boot cache.
After the following reboot, your wifi should be working again.

Cheers,
CountPollen

Installed the update yesterday and works fine. Network Utility still says a/b/g/n.

Terrible Update

This update which came up automatically in Software Update has not only disabled Airport, but it also hangs Restart and System Preferences.
I've spent hours chasing a solution. Have repaired permissions, started in Safe Mode, cleaned caches with OnyX, deleted Airport in Network Preferences etc.

Any ideas out there--I'm on the road and do not have access to my OSX disks etc.
Mac OS X 10.5.5
2.6 GHz MacBook Pro
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8C)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.38.9)
Current Wireless Network: AirPort is currently turned off

I can confirm this, looks like it disables N capability.
Here is the latest version if anyone wants to revert: http://rapidshare.com/files/156485013/IO80211Family.kext.zip

Jesus dude thank you so much. My only question is how/where/what am I replacing? For anyone who did not install this update, be glad. Today I randomly turned off the wireless on my MBP (for an airplane ride), for the past hour I've tried to turn it back on but it just freezes and then nothing happens. Tried opening System Prefs. -> Network -> turning on Airport that way, but System Prefs just freezes.

Go to hell Apple. You bastards could at least provide a fix for something you break.

Hm, I'll have to give this a try.

EDIT: Yeah, no good. Still not working. Gonna try the other method.
EDIT 2: So I made the bad decision of trying to replace that 80211Family.kext file with the one already in the extensions folder. Don't do that. Now it thinks my wireless card doesn't even exist. (yes, my fault, I know). God I hope this update is released soon.
