Undoubtedly liability causes many useful things to not be available due to evil motives of evil people. I've used my AirTags a total of one time in 2+ years to find keys that I eventually would have found. If helping track stolen goods isn't a 'good' feature for Apple, then I have no need of it. Crazy that we still sell alcohol in America. It has contributed to millions of more deaths than AirTags ever could.
Yes, some people just like to watch the world burn.

Fine, you don't have a need although you said they were useful. Lots of other people (like me) find them very useful. I hope you can find a product that does what you need.

As for alcohol, I tend to agree with you but prohibition was tried a few times and it doesn't work. It has to be a social decision.

I have an AirTag. The battery was running low so I replaced it. Still doesn’t work. Looked online and it said sometimes the bitter coating on batteries stop it so I followed the instructions to remove it and it still didn’t work. I like Apple products but this one … not so much!
You have to buy the battery that doesn't have the "child safe" coating on it. Scraping a viewing l coating off isn't reliable.
Interesting. Duracell fixed this by putting the bitterant coating ring on the positive side so it doesn’t affect the AirTags anymore. My AirTags came with Duracell batteries and as you can see in the picture it’s on the top. I’ve also verified with the batteries labeled “compatible with AirTag“ on their retail packaging.

You know, I was pretty excited when AT came out, so I bought 3.

To this day - I've never found a use for them! :D
I bought 4 and all of them are are in use on my keys and bags and happily I haven't need to use any of them yet... but they are like having a lifeboat etc it's just good thing if you don't need to use them.

I will not be happy if they make a big change to the form factor. Product works great for me and I own numerous AirTags. Every AirTag, that I own, has a protective casing around it. Some are rugged for hiking, some are silicone and used with every set of keys I have and some are luggage style tag holders. So if apple makes another change to form factor like Tile did, I may have to give up because all technology will break and I just want to buy a new one without new accessories.

This post originated in Aug 2023 and now it’s July 2025 and we still don’t have them. I hope they get released by the September iPhone launch at the latest. I want to get a few more, but don’t want to buy the 1st gen if the new ones will have better range.

Apple introduced AirTags in 2021, and over the last several years, the item tracker has been growing in popularity. Rumors suggest that Apple has a new version of the AirTag in the works, and while we don't know a lot just yet, a new model is said to be coming sometime in 2025.

This guide highlights everything that we know about the AirTag 2 so far, and we'll be added to it as new rumors surface.

Design

There are no rumors of an AirTag redesign at this point, and Apple will likely keep the same general shape. There have been complaints about how easy it is to access the battery, which some worry could be a danger to children, so Apple could potentially change the way the AirTag opens.

The AirTag has a replaceable CR2032 battery, and Apple doesn't plan to transition to a built-in rechargeable battery. The AirTag 2 is likely to continue to use a CR2032 battery.

As an anti-stalking measure, Apple could make the speaker in the AirTag more difficult to remove. That would prevent would-be stalkers from removing the speaker to prevent the AirTag from making a sound.

Vision Pro Integration

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the AirTag will integrate with the Vision Pro headset as part of a spatial computing ecosystem, but he did not provide specifics on just what that means.

It's possible the Ultra Wideband chip in the AirTags could be used for relaying positional information to the Vision Pro in some capacity, or there could be some kind of VR item tracking interface.

Upgraded Ultra Wideband Chip

The next-generation AirTag will have a much longer tracking range thanks to the inclusion of a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. The updated Ultra Wideband chip was introduced in the iPhone 15 models and it has three times the range as the original Ultra Wideband chip.

Launch Date

A new AirTag is coming in 2025, and it could launch in September alongside new iPhone models.
