It needs an easier way to change batteries. Right now there's absolutely no way to grip it to change batteries, as all the parts are too shiny and slippery. Also, it could be thinner. The weird bump profile adds unnecessary thickness to the design.

I give the originals a C for design.

What are you doing? Throwing them away when the battery goes flat? :D

I’ve changed mine several times without issue. There is probably a video on YouTube or somewhere if you need one.

I mostly just want a wallet shaped version so I can ditch Tile. Also, either slightly louder, or the ability to change the chirp to something more distinct, as the one I use for my Apple TV remote can sound a little muffled in the case that it's in... or just add greater "Find My" functionality in the next remote with a speaker to ping.

Tracking my dogs work out like a SamsungTag would be nice. You just need to press it once to start a walk and press again to stop it. You can even give it another action with a long press like for home accessories. Customizing the alert sound would also be nice.

Oh and make them less off a b to open. after a while it's damn near impossible to get the ***** back to turn whatsoever

The features we need:
- The ability to "arm" an AirTag and get a notification if it's been moved while in this mode so people can use it as an anti-theft device.
- Open up the protocol for other companies to use this network for different types of IOT type devices rather than just trackers.
- Make them thinner, no need for a metal back, and put a hole for a keyring.

Replacing gen 1 with an even more piece gen 2 that probably only works at 1/3 the advertised distance just like gen 1. Edit: Will I be buying some...wouldn't be a fanboy if I didn't.

The easier it is to open, the easier it is for some kid to decide they want to eat the battery and make mommy and daddy rich. #onlyinAmerica

I don't have any problems opening mine, but maybe something like this will work: https://a.co/d/hBwNsVr

It’s true, something super slim for the Wallet would be great. I have a strap around my wallet with my AirTag and its kinda obnoxious.

Don't have any. But, if I did get them I would want to removed the speaker and put it in my car.

I understand the reason behind it but I should be able to track my stuff without alerting thieves.
Have one on keys and another stashed in our car - and yes, I agree that one does not need the car tag to emit sounds. Excellent though to find car in large parking lots.

"and it offers a range of up to 200 feet/60 meters"

pfffft....60 metres is 196.85 ft. Apple trying to pad their stats.

I want my additional 3.15 feet of coverage.
Are you sure those aren't your little feet?

😈

"put a hole for a keyring."
This!
I don't know why they haven't done this. Seems so logical.

Wash the Fritos grease off your fingers and the AirTag is quite easy to open

Already exists from a third party.

Edit - also available from KeySmart - and I don't have personal experience with either, so can't vouch for how well either does or doesn't work.

No cellular? Lame.
Different use case -- if you want a device which needs charging every few days, so you can accurately locate stolen items (or stalk people without their knowledge), there's plenty of small GPS trackers on the market. e.g. T-Mobile SyncUP Tracker 2

You just know the speaker will be soldered in the new models, good luck hacking it!
Tell us you're unfamiliar with AirTag speaker removal without saying so. :)

The coils in the originals are soldered in. People removed the magnet the coils caused to move. Soldering the magnet would kinda prevent it making sound to begin with.

It’s for the iPhone 16 and 16 pro. The 16E doesn’t support the ultra wideband. What a waste.

Why not make a 10-point checklist to prepare to change batteries? And a power-point presentation summarizing how the battery change operation went that we could email to Elon Musk?

We all want to do more work! Yay!

I'm not sure why they'd even waste time on making the speaker more difficult to remove. If it is too difficult, then someone can just break the speaker instead. 🤷‍♂️
