I mostly just want a wallet shaped version so I can ditch Tile. Also, either slightly louder, or the ability to change the chirp to something more distinct, as the one I use for my Apple TV remote can sound a little muffled in the case that it's in... or just add greater "Find My" functionality in the next remote with a speaker to ping.
Try the Chipolo Card Spot. I have a couple of them. Very thin and work great with FindMy.

I've had Chipolo on my list for consideration, but I knew Apple was updating the AirTag in the nearish future and so had been holding off in case they dropped a card version. Thanks for the recommendation!

I’m glad Apple are actually a responsible company who…
  • Make it hard for kids to open them (although some people here have trouble, which is a good thing)
  • Make it harder for stalkers to use these. Plenty of other options for stalkers to use thinner, less obvious trackers that don’t have a 'stalker alert speaker'.

The fact that there isn’t a rechargeable AirTag variant using the Apple Watch cable / puck is downright wrong.
Why? How would that be better? Be specific, please, I’m truly curious.

CR2032 batteries are cheap and recyclable, usually lasting a year or more in an AirTag.

What would we gain from a likely larger more complex AirTag to support either wireless or USBC charging with higher cost and likely lower battery life?

There are already thinner wallet card trackers they are rechargeable. This is definitely possible and would lead to less waste.

You mean the ones that are larger (wider & taller), more expensive, and have half (or less) battery life?

Again, what's the benefit of them being rechargeable other than thinness for use in a wallet?

With CR2032's being recyclable, I'm not sure there's a lot of waste avoidance benefit here.

Different use case -- if you want a device which needs charging every few days, so you can accurately locate stolen items (or stalk people without their knowledge), there's plenty of small GPS trackers on the market. e.g. T-Mobile SyncUP Tracker 2

Tell us you're unfamiliar with AirTag speaker removal without saying so. :)

The coils in the originals are soldered in. People removed the magnet the coils caused to move. Soldering the magnet would kinda prevent it making sound to begin with.
You can remove the speaker so you don't hear it, I guess you don't know that!

Nope! Thanks for confirming that you're not familiar with AirTag silencing. :D

The "speaker" is a combination of the casing and circuit board - a magnet glued to the inside of the case is moved by a voice coil on the circuit board. So your comment of "the speaker will be soldered in the new models" is nonsense - the voice coil is already soldered to the circuit board and the magnet is already glued to the inside of the casing.

So you can't really "remove" the speaker, but you can disable it by either removing the magnet or cutting a wire to the coil. (yes, people incorrectly refer to removing the magnet as removing the speaker)
