Any idea if I can put an airtag into flight luggage? Will it work if the luggage gets lost? Would I be able to tell where it is, even if it is in another country?

Don't see anything that this would work for couples. Where either one may want to track it down, without having 2 AirTags on it.

But since tied to iCloud account, it should work for me no matter which phone I'm using. Though only my 12 Pro would have the precise location feature.

Would this easily allow someone to track a random person's vehicle for example? One could hide an airtag easily on a car and monitor its placement. The irony is that the car owner's phone will be the one reporting the position, since thats the closest iPhone to the tag.

Edit: nevermind, i can see this issue is solved by notifying the user about an unidentified airtag. Guess you need to make sure its an android user first...

There are plenty places in a car you could put an AirTag where it couldn’t be heard.

I would think most normal thieves would just dump whatever they’ve stolen as soon as they get the warning.

I've considered the competition before, and the nice thing about this is that it doesn't require you to use an alarm to find the item. I've considered attaching it to a cat's collar (though it may still be too big). But using an audible alarm is likely to scare a cat too much.

Can I just interject here and say something no one seems to be talking about!! The airtag IF stolen, will alert the thieve if he has an iPhone that there is a tag tracking him. So he can dispose of it and keep my wallet. How is this a good idea?? I understand the need for privacy but seriously if I wanted to track someone I can just buy something on Amazon to do it. This makes no sense if someone actually wants to rob me?!?!

So Apple releases the Find My network for third parties...

...then immediately abuses its competitive advantage by including proprietary chip technology that makes it far better and more useful than every other product that can use the Find My network.

And for what? To scrape up $29 sales? I feel really bad for anyone in the tracker tag business.

This has anti-trust law suits written all over it.

Sucks to have an inferior product.

Anti-trust? That's a knee-slapper! :)

When bike manufacturer VanMoof announced to include Apples FindMy feature in their bikes, I was hoping that I will be able to use the AirTags as an anti-theft device.

But it seems that it’s not possible if the theft is alerted thru the anti-tracking „feature“. So AirTags are useless for me.

I wonder how VanMoof is able to use it for tracking/finding lost/stolen bikes, without notifying the theft, or just random people standing near the bike when it’s parked somewhere.

The only things I lose are the AirPods case and the Apple TV remote. When will these items get U1/AirTags tracking capability? AirTags are pretty big compared to these items. I've been hoping Apple would build this enhanced Find My functionality into these items.

THIS. Hide the AirTag on the item in a not easily accessible place. Say under the seat of a bicycle etc. The thief is warned by the beeping of the tag that it is being tracked, and will most likely dump the item instead of trying to spend time locating it in a likely public place.

That's my problem as well. I would like to use them to protect something like my bicycle. A thief will be notified there is a tracker inside and will just find it and discard it. Wtf??
I agree. Up where we live at there is a lot of car thefts and that is what I was going to use one for so someone could possibly walk by the car I would get an alert. If as is reported a thief has an iPhone and they get the alert there’s “an unknown tracker following you” then that will be pointless to say the least. Bummer.

Oh so nobody is allowed to come out with a better product? Good luck in your wet dreams about anti-trust lawsuits. Someone should tell Ford to start suing every car maker there is as we will be going back to the Model A......wait......maybe someone has a relative from the horse and buggy days and they can sue.

Absolutely ridiculous that these don't have a hole in them and you have to pay more (!!!) than the device itself for a way to put it on a keyring. (Yes, I know third party options do and will exist, but it is still ridiculous.)
Don’t buy one?

I am really looking forward to trying the AirTags. I like that it is supposedly very precise in locating your item.

I know from screenshots that they can tell you an item is "x feet to your left/right," but I'm curious if they can tell you if an item is above or below you.

For example, if I leave my keys on the 10th floor of a building, and I realize my keys are missing when I get to the lobby (or vice-versa), will it tell you "Your keys are x feet directly above/below you"?
