So just turn off safety alerts and no sound will come out either if family is using your car they won’t get notified they have a tracker on them but you can still track where your car or family pet is?

Do I have that right?

Apple probably thought of this but I hope the anti-tracking feature is smart enough not to flag when I'm there as well. If I drive somewhere with my partner I don't want their phone complaining of being tracked because I have my keyfob with us.

No, you don't have it right.

You can disable your phone from giving you safety alerts. You cannot disable a tag from issuing them to other users who have not disabled it on their phone.

I also would like to share some of my Airtags with my family. My Wife and I share the car keys and we are constantly upset with one another as we both leave the keys in all sorts of places.

From what I understand, if I was the owner of the tag only I can find the keys??? My wife cannot on her phone....this is such a shame as it would be most useful.. I can find her phone if she leaves it somewhere, and she mine... but not an Airtag ??

Also I would want both my wife and I to be able to update the position of the 'shared' Airtag. So if she say left the keys somewhere, her phone would have updated the last know location. This is also a feature I fear is not present currently...

Perhaps this is all coming in IOS 15... they are locking it down initially so we , the public get comfortable with the platform as it is and then they slowly open it up a little ? one can only hope...

A.

When you get an alert that YOU are being tracked, you can dismiss the alert from your own phone. Basically, you are saying, "yeah, I know I am being tracked so stop alerting me cuz it's on purpose".

Sorry, I haven't been following all of the AirTag threads. But, one thing I don't currently understand is how they deal with anti-stalking situations vs legitimate theft situations. If someone steals your keys or something, is this going to notify them that they're being tracked? And does that defeat the purpose?

If I turn off location tracking on my iPhone will that stop Apple from using my iPhone to find one of these tags?

Apple specified that these are not designed to track stolen items. They are designed to track lost items. So yes, it will notify the thief that your stolen item is being tracked.

I know I’m going to get some, just waiting for real world reviews on how they work. Especially if you have a family and use them under one Apple ID.

I think I remember that they said there is an option to opt out of the Mesh network if you don't want to participate and be helpful to others.

As another user pointed out, this is a lost-item finder, not a stolen-item tracker.

Besides, if a thief steals your keys, they’re just going to rip off the AirTag when they see it anyway.
