By Family Sharing? I can see all of my wife devices including her iPhone on my Find My. I don’t need AirTag for that.

You can disable Find My whenever you want. You can't disable a tag you don't know is there.

Theres a potential serious security concern. Scenario: Physically abusive partner. Family sharing is set up. Police intervene and escort the victim to a safe house who turns off find my (or even their phone). Unknown the abusive partner put a tag into bag/coat pocket whatever. Few hours later tag is found by another phone in the safe house which reports its location. Abusive partner turns up at said safe house.

Its not so far fetched and is easily solved by ensuring that ONLY the person carrying the tag can dismiss the alert.

Yes, but if I were you I would be more concerned about my car or purse being stolen than a $29 dollar AirTag. Again, these are not for tracking stolen items, they are for lost items.
Almost everything I lost are stole from me, like badminton rackets from my gym lockers, etc. I never lost things like my keys, etc.

It says the borrower can disable safety alert. Wouldn’t they have to keep disabling it?

min the sense of. A friend borrows something from you and is using it. They get noticed they have a tag with them and disable the alert. But can they stop the tag from making noise too?

Let’s say you are on the bus, airtag in your backpack. Your phone runs out of battery. Every iPhone on the bus goes nuts because of “be careful you are being tracked” notification??

I understand the anti stalking side of it but the purpose should be to find a stolen item not just a lost item, if the tag tells whoever stole it about its presence what’s the point really.
It is just meant to be put on a bunch of keys, not on something you don’t want to be stolen.

Can people please just read first... I'm getting tired reading this topic. ;p
A airtag doesn't freak out right away when there's no iphone charged or even near it at all... I mean, you couldn't even go to the toilet (asuming you carry it in your pocket even then and the toilet is not around the corner) at work if your keys/tag are on your desk or such.

MR front page has a countdown timer to the launch of AirTags.

Yes, the battery is user replaceable. However it doesn’t say what type of battery it uses, where you buy the replacements and how much they cost. It might be a special battery only available from Apple for $10. Battery lasts up to 1 year.
It's a CR2032 battery. Get then for about 20c each on Amazon.

I just went on the Apple Store to look at the selection of emoji you can engrave on the AirTag, and it is kind of meh... it’s obviously not a big deal, but if I decide to get some, I would’ve liked to put an image that corresponds to what I want to track... so the fact that there isn’t a key emoji, something travel related (plane, earth,...), a couple different types of bags (backpack, purse, etc), or other types of items one would like to track is a bit disappointing.
But you can put a poop and a unicorn on it. Stop whining.

maybe this helps explain why we haven’t seen airTag built into the AppleTV remote. perhaps they know they have a gap in their tracking ability by not having family sharing. We would all want anyone in the family to track something like a remote.
Just a thought. If the remote was connected to wifi why would it need an air tag - surely it could fall into the same 'find my' as AirPods etc - no need to have a tag.

I want a notification when my iPhone is left behind on my non-cellular Apple watch
Yes!! I was at Sea World last month and I didn’t realize I had lost my iPhone until I tried to text from my watch and there was no connectivity. Would have been great to have gotten a message on my watch once connectivity was lost.
