Do you guys think Apple will send Federal Agents a recognition letter like this about an AirTag?

The Federal Agents did get creative!

I have used Tile in the past, but switched to AirTags a few months ago. Tracking works fine, but it makes a chirping sound every time I move the wallet, keys or laptop quickly. This never happened with Tile.

A retired detective that spoke to Forbes speculated that the DEA may have used an AirTag because it offers more reliable connectivity than other devices, or because of past failures of the GPS devices available to police.
If a consumer grade tracker is more reliable than the ones the government used, maybe they should question that vendor providing such subpar devices using taxpayer dollars. Smell like corruption.

We've actually started using AirTags in the federal government not too long ago. I was actually part of the process into getting them approved as our national cybersecurity team in DC came to me since I'm the only Apple Sheep in our data center so they wanted to know more about AirTags.

Yeah the Apple Ecosystem is foreign for a lot of them since a lot of federal employees are Android users, which is funny since our government furnished phones are all iPhones.

That’s surprising, I thought everyone in government/military used iPhones due to security.

That's what I meant by government furnished iPhones. Their personal phones are Androids. Their iPhones are for work and work only, so as a result they don't know a lot of iOS functions. Hell our union president is an Android fangirl and she's constantly complaining about how much she hates the UI design of iOS, yet she absolutely pogged when I told her about the built in document scanner. That's the one thing about iPhones she likes lmao

No, they don’t. They’re in a process of transitioning it but for some reason, Android has been more popular amongg the government/military. Everyone knows Apple is not cheap. So they don’t even bother with iPhones.

Good riddance to each and every cog in the wheel of these drug operations. I’m overjoyed every time I see these saps getting busted. I’ve seen what drugs can do to people I love. I have no sympathy for anyone involved in the production or transport of that crap. I hope AirTags help catch many more of these people.

Good guys using them to deal with Bad guys: shock & horror???

Bad guys using them to exploit Good guys: shock & horror!

It seems many of our collective reactions should flip in one of those scenarios.

I for one appreciate anything that helps the good guys beat the bad guys. Whether it's this or something else, hurray for the good! 🎉
Government definitely isn't the "good guys". This sort of tech will be used against actual good guys eventually.

Whenever you see military grade or something like that, just think lowest bidder.
Actually, lowest bidder might be "better" as at least it saves taxpayers some money. On the contrary, government contracts usually goes to the sole contractor who got the proper "lobbying." Often times, the bidding process is not even real, just formality.

They use Androids due to preference, since their work phones are iPhones they want something different for when they're home. Is that so odd to you?

Spent 13 years in the US Navy and now 10 years as a LEO with a local government. I can attest that the stuff we’re issued is pure trash, for the most part. Most USFOR-A and Service Members I worked with overseas and LEO’s in my current department opt to buy their own equipment lol.
