In my testing around my house (wood w/ drywall insides) is that it the precision find doesn't work real well unless I'm essentially in the same room. That said, mostly in my house I can hear the "beep" which is much better than trying to "find" the item anyway.

I'm pretty happy with the functionality regardless, and hope they add some family sharing capability, and or the ability to turn off the "3-day starts beeping" feature.

I put the airtag on my dog. As it is, when I go on vacation and leave her with friends, I'll need to remove the airtag from the dog lest it start beeping after 3 days. Or maybe I'll just remove the beepulator from it like I've seen some people do.

Mine started working from 33 ft away and I have metal studs if that makes any diff.

Precision find works great only if your in the same room and a few feet away total waste of money
How many Apple devices capable of participating in the “Find me…”-network do you own? Are you sure, you have the right info how this works?

Yes i can see them all but they do not have precision find- I can just see that they are at this address
So if you place an airbag besides one of these device it (this device) will tell it (the airbag) is e.g. within 3 feet distance, I presume? Lke putting the airtag besides an iPad in the living room will give precision find on the iPad, right?

So if that is the case and you leave the airtag and the iPad where they are, take your iPhone go to the garden and try to locate your airtag, at what distance do you have precision find activated?

EDIT: for clarity

I completely agree. General location is fine, but this precision finding is virtually nonexistent unless you’re right on it. I placed the AirTag on my desk and stood about 4 ft. from it with no obstructions between us. All I got was a “signal too weak” message. It didn’t start working until I was under 2 ft. away from it.

That’s exactly my experience. And I was bullied by some people here blaming that I have a defective phone. It was funny.

I’m somewhere in the middle. These aren’t as helpful as I had hoped but they still perform the task better than tiles - which have always been a nightmare.

My disappointment lies in that I figured these tags would update location info occasionally throughout the day. I set my keys down the other day and walked away. I knew where they were but I tested the find my app. When I pulled it up, it said the last place it saw my keys was 5 hours ago at home… How is that even remotely useful? Doesn’t it ping every now and again? Maybe to save battery life but I’d GLADLY change batteries every 6 months to be able to have the position of my items updates a FEW times a day… If I hadn’t remembered where I set those keys, it would have been a useless purchase.

I believe this would only be the case if the device has a U1 chip.
