There’s definitely things this product is missing :

- flatter form factor for certain use cases. And could it have killed them to design a hole in the product itself ?
- louder alarm
- Apple Watch integration
- the biggest omitted feature : alerts when you part with certain items. It’s kind of dumb I can’t set my keys or wallet to an alert mode to warn me if they’re being left behind. Hopefully this feature arrives in a future update.

They can’t wait a few years to fix these things - gotta do it soon or these may go the way of the HomePod.
Yea, a proximity alarm is a huge missing feature that I’m sure will come.

If the “ping” from the AirTag to your iPhone is so scarce (every 15 minutes or so) then by the time your phone alerts you the item will be long gone. But at least it’s “only” minutes ago maybe you can still find it 😅

The problem is that beep isn’t gonna be audible in a loud restaurant or any number of places.
Knowing my keys are in the restaurant as opposed to the grocery store, under the park bench, or between my couch cushions should be good enough for me. If I was in a restaurant, I'll remember where I sat. They keys are most likely there, or with the host or bar tender otherwise.

Then why bother putting a U1 in this thing?

Because they already put U2 in iTunes. hhaha

On a serious note, I see the critical functionality for ME as follows:
  • The find my network is super-extensive. If I leave something behind somewhere, I often don't know where of the 5-10 places I visited that day I left it...making the search difficult and time consuming. If the Findmy network can narrow my search down to one specific location (like the restaurant I visited) then It will be much less stressful to try to find my stuff.
  • The beeping: Is great in the house. My wife loves to steal my car keys from the key hook, and NEVER puts them back. So often I need to rummage through her purse, jacket pockets etc to try to find my damned key. By being able to ping the stuff IN my house it is easier to find.
  • U1 chip: I'm kindof Meh, on this. While it is a cool gimmick, for me personally it has limited utility. I suppose it is good in the case where your keys or appletv remote slid into a crack in the couch and for some reason you can't hear the beep. Or perhaps, if I dropped my keys while jogging in the park. Once I get an approximate location, using the U1 chip could help me to dramatically decrease the search time. I walk around in a grid-pattern till I get a signal, then go from there.
All in all, for $25 a piece they met my expectations, with the exception of the lack of family sharing.

I feel your pain.

That's why I just spent nearly $200 on AirTags and holders just for her.
