You might need to check with your airline if you're planning on using this inside or attached to checked luggage. Some are VERY strict about any battery inside luggage these days, even if they are technically compliant. Should be no issue with carryon usage.

For those that don't know, CR2032 is about the size and weight of 2-3 US quarters stacked. They're in almost all smart tag devices and wireless Z-Wave/Zigbee.
Thank you for bringing up that important point. I think the power is under the limit for checked baggage requirements although i can not say for certain. My concern if you use these for checked luggage, are they durable enough to survive the rough handling by the ground crew at the airport.

I would not want often, I just had in mind topping off a few times per year but I'm good with the battery option. They are easy batteries to find in stores. I keep them around for my Ecobee sensors, they need to be swapped about once per year as well.
yea, but it seems that rechargeable batteries would last much less than replaceable ones. i think with these tags it's a good direction.

I have some tiles & one feature of the tile that I didn’t see mentioned (or just missed it) which I do like & use a lot is that if you click the Tile, it will cause your iPhone to ring enabling you to reverse use the Tile to find your phone if it’s close by.

Ugh. What a missed opportunity. I hope they eventually allow engraving of a line or two of small text. Wouldn't it be a no-brainer if you're going to hang this thing on your keyring to physically engrave it with your phone number as a backup way for someone to get it back to you?

Four characters is useless.
Even better: a QR code!

I wonder why they didn't just make it a rechargeable battery that lasts a year. Just lay in on the Apple Watch charging puck..

"You can also set it so someone can get your contact info by tapping your AirTag with an NFC-capable smartphone — that’s the same technology that lets people pay for things with their phones."

Is this able to notify me when I go away x meters from an airtag? Not finding an tag when I realise it's gone.

I'm wanting to know the exact same thing.
For me, the AirTag having this feature would be the deciding factor on if I would purchase one or not.

I have on one occasion (and nearly on a few more occasions) left by back pack on the overhead luggage racks on the train. On the one occasion I had to do a 300 mile round trip to go to the train station to retrieve it. So the AirTag notifying my iPhone, when I was a short distance away, would have stopped this from happening.

Yeah, will probably do that, they are to big to fit inside a frame.
Would love to hide it though, so theives wont find it immediately unless they do a thorough search.
I'd guess we're going to see more bike manufacturers including FindMy along with a whole heap of accessories that will have slots for a tag soon enough.

I need at least 4 AirTags to start 😅 One for my dogs collar, my keys, my bag, and 1 double sided to the Apple TV remote. I lose that remote every day on the hour. The second you look away, BOOM! Couch swallowed it up into the abyss. 😂 I do have my trusty Tiles which I highly recommend. It has saved me at least a dozen times in the last 6 months. No brainer if you tend to misplace things easily. Which I do a lot.
I wsnt one for my dog too. But isn’t the tag they have too long. What are you going to use for your dog collar?

I wonder if these tags will have a battery indicator via iOS to track it's battery life before having to replace the battery after a years time has past.

the tag seems stupid but the software packed is awesome and its something others cant match. BUT one thing still left unanswered

"AirTag is designed to discourage unwanted tracking. If someone else’s AirTag finds its way into your stuff, your iPhone will notice it’s traveling with you and send you an alert. After a while, if you still haven’t found it, the AirTag will start playing a sound to let you know it’s there.

Of course, if you happen to be with a friend who has an AirTag, or on a train with a whole bunch of people with AirTag, don’t worry. These alerts are triggered only when an AirTag is separated from its owner."

so if the thief has an iPhone he would know there is a tag attached?
Who attaches an AirTag to their iPhone? The iPhone is an AirTag itself. Not sure what you are asking.
