Wouldn't that be a good thing to discourage thievery?
But wouldn't the thief be notified that they are tracked for their privacy if they are using iphone?
I was wondering what Apple was going to do to prevent stalkers from using these devices to follow people around. I can't imagine how you could prevent tipping off a thief they were carrying someone's tracker if you are going to notify people they are carrying someone else's tracker around. My only question comes down to implementation - how long do you have to carry someone's tracker before you are notified you are being tracked? Is it based on time or distance or some combination of the two?

I have heard that it is common for thieves to drop stolen goods in a woods or abandoned building for a week or so before taking their stolen goods home just in case there is a tracker hidden in a backpack or some other item. Hopefully just knowing these devices are out there (and affordable) will cause some would be thieves to think twice before stealing anything.
