Apple's response to this was completely unacceptable. Right now, I'm sitting at the Minneapolis airport after paying $460 for a flight on Southwest to replace the United flight that I missed because my iPhone alarm didn't go off. I need to get back to California by tomorrow, and there were no more open United flights today. If I set an alarm on my iPhone, I expect it to go off. I would expect this from an Android phone, but not from Apple. Why didn't Apple send an email to all customers who had registered iPhones alerting them of this issue? Normal people don't read Engadget or Cnet, and can't be expected to know about Apple's bad software.

No shyte, what a huge FAIL by Apple.

If genius can't do a simple alarm, time for a new genius.

Casio/Timex > Apple.

Have a new team rewrite the damn clock from scratch please, and put it in the next iOS update. It's not the first bug with this POS, and I bet it won't be the last.

My 10 year old dumb phone didn't have a problem with alarms, neither did my Timex watch back in 1988.

Meh, i love my iphone 4, dont get me wrong, but the launch of the iphone 4 has to be one of apples most problematic launches yet.

No, im not talking sales numbers. But still, delay white iphone, millions lost in bumpers, iphone 4 white delayed a third time to spring, alarm clock, antenna problems, you name it. Damn

Really? You'd expect this from an Android phone? The fanboy in you clearly didn't oversleep. If your flight was so important to you; assuming you knew of the issue before, then why didn't you set an alternative alarm? "Normal" people don't read Engadget or Cnet? In your inane attempt to insult those who read tech news you've forgotten that this story was also reported by BBC news. I suspect "normal" people don't read BBC news either, right?

I don't expect this issue on any mobile platform but I can always count on the Apple fanboys to shirk responsibility and blame all their problems on a cell phone.

C'mon people, the issue is already resolved, not a big deal,

There's no need to lose any sleep over this...heck maybe we can gain some sleep! ;)

It's not resolved. How do you know if the Apple alarm will work tomorrow, or the next day?

It's not a question of whether 'normal' people read CNET/Engadget or watch the BBC News, it's a question of whether everybody that relies on an iPhone to wake them up in the morning is following the news avidly to be forewarned of any substantial failure in the device.

Dependability has always been why I've had a Mac over a PC. I think back to our first LC, then our PowerPC 601 and our G4 and they were rock solid machines. My MacBook Pro on the other hand had a new motherboard owing to a defective graphics card and a defective top case. I was around working on a friend's 18 month old iMac that had a screen fault and a defective DVD drive and both Leopard and Snow Leopard have both been extremely buggy. I think a lot of sloppiness is coming into Apple as a result of their rapid growth. Reminds me somewhat of Toyota's issues of last year.

Set mine to 630am and it didn't go off this morning. I was nearly late for work. I work in the emergency services as well so I can't afford to be late for work.

I'm seeing a common theme here, I recon its not fixed in the UK. That's 3 of us now its not worked for today, all in the UK.

Hmm…weird.

My wake up calls, ie. recurring alarms, went off just fine this morning.

Tried an ad hoc (non-recurring) alarm I keep for different stuff, just now, and that went off just fine, too. (This was the same alarm that didn't go off when I tested it Saturday, ie. January 1st, I just changed the time and turned it on.)

[Norway, iPhone 4, iOS 4.2.1, not jailbroken]

Apparently it is only for non-recurring alarms, and they could not be set on Jan 2nd, but had to be set on Jan 3rd. Mine set last night did not work, but I just tested one today and it does.

My wife's non-recurring alarm clock set for 7am did not go off this AM. Fix this ASAP Apple, this is unacceptable. Good thing I had mine set as recurring. Mine did work.

You set it wrong. ~ Steve Jobs

Lmfao!!!!

I can confirm that as of today 6.20am the alarm did not go off (I'm based in London UK)

I live in Atlanta, and I flew into London on new years morning. My alarm worked just fine this morning. Right on schedule. Seems like a spotty problem. I'll check it again tomorrow morning.
