Lots of good tips guys! I don't think I'm going to go with a cream, so I've narrowed it down to the following:

Burgundy
Duck-Egg Blue
Taupe (which color of taupe?)

What do you think? And what shade of taupe are you all thinking?

Definitely not burgundy. Why would you put black against burgundy? The two are too dark to go together. The outline of your sofa would be lost against the dark of the wall. I imagine it would actually be painful to look at. No joke. It would become hard to focus on either the wall or the sofa at a far distance in anything but bright light.

I believe this is nice, as a shade of taupe. But make sure you dress the room up with some accents, like other dark objects to break the monotony of the taupe. I would recommend very dark, wood tables and end pieces, and some bright plants to give it a splash of color. But in a room with taupe walls and black furniture, you can't have too much color. Only here and there, and not usually with inanimate objects. Stick to the black-brown-tan range with your accessories and other pieces, but a flower here and there will be a nice accent.

If you do it right the room should have a nice, warm, almost tribal or jungly sort of feel. Recessed in-ceiling lights will make the walls much nicer to look at, as well. If you have the resources, place them over a hanging piece of art with a dark frame.

As you can tell I can't wait to get my own place. Ha.

This is the photo that inspired me to do the burgundy. What do you think of it?

It might be just the lighting, but...

1. I like it all, EXCEPT the colors of the walls.
2. I don't think that's burgundy. It's too brown/orangey.

This is burgundy:

A lighter colour would go nice with that setup, like the duck-egg blue, but if you want a darker, warmer feel, go for the taupe.

Also, if you want a setup that looks like that, I would recommend against getting furniture with chrome on it. It distracts from the continuity of the room as a whole, and IMO, is kind of tacky. Solid dark wood pieces are much nicer, feel more luxurious, and don't give off awkward shines. You want the room to work as a whole, not for a little glare of light at the bottom of your desk to distract attention.

The color is more apparent. That's definitely not burgundy. In fact, it's more taupe than burgundy. It looks nice in the photo, but I find it a tad too saturated.

Make sure you have nice lighting. Dark rooms always look nice with warm lighting that highlights the walls and the floor, but doesn't blind the whole room. Think low-wattage, LED lights.

Also, look at the desk in that photo. I'm assuming you want a similar look. A large all-black or all dark-brown desk with a wood grain will look nice, or that sort of wood grain that has the tiny little holes all over it. Forget what it's called.

But definitely go with a less-orangey and more taupey sort of tone for the walls. The furniture can be black or brown, just make sure it's dark.

Don't quote me on that though. I'm just telling you what I think would look nice. :)

OK. If I went with any of these colors? What color bedding would you get? I'm thinking a grey with some grey/black, maybe blue (depending on the color of the walls) accents would do, but what do you all think?
