The assumption at the heart of your argument has no proof - just an assertion made by you. Who is this "majority" and how do you know that's why they buy an iMac? You keep saying this over and over, and making straw arguments (if a Mac Pro costs the same as an iMac yada yada yada). Anyone who refutes that or claims that they like the iMac because it is an AIO you cry "bull....". If someone doesn't agree with your perspective, you wave off their opinion. My 10 year old does that.

And as far as enjoying it "purely because it's an AIO....", I don't know if too many people decide to do ANYthing "purely" because of one reason or another. It's a compromise - you give up this to get that and in the end hopefully maximize your utility within the price you are willing to pay. Looks are important on my list, but if Dell or Lenova or ASUS or some other manufacturer had an AIO that looked better I'd probably still not buy it as the OS is important to me too. As is my history with the brand, their service, how it fits into my overall digital needs, etc...

Cute. So you're offended and decided to wrapping fancy words to imply I am a total retard instead of writing a mature argument. Nice job, Sir. Tell your kids uncle says hello here.
I admit it was rather a poor choice of words, though. I should've said "many friends of mine" instead of "majority" because that's what I know for sure.

But again, it's a forum. Your OPINION does not necessarily better than mine. You don't need a tower? Well I do, my friends do, in fact some iMac users here do. Go figure, go ask them, see what they wrote here. So I know I'm not alone in this.

I don't have a specific numbers (of course I don't, and do you?) of how many people bought an iMac because it is an iMac, or simply stuck or feel forced because it's the best powerful desktop solution Apple could come up which does not cost an arm and a leg. Do a poll here if you're really into some hard cold numbers.

The iMac is semi-disposable, limited in life by its hard drive. The HD goes, the iMac goes—unless one has insurance.

Baloney!

The HDD is easily replaceable and the Apple specific ones can be purchased if need be.

Oh but hey, if your HDD fails and you want to dispose of your iMac I'll send out a prepaid shipping box so you can send it to me for disposal ! :D

Apple isn't big on suggestions. Hopefully the desktop products that they come out with from this point forward will make sense to us one way or the other.

For what it's worth (not much I know), in my opinion, the reasoning is, the imac looks good on the desk (aside from the chin). An imac with the guts in the base would look clunky. A separate box is the mini or mac pro and wires. The imac is more form over function.

I do think that Apple should make a Mac tower using the Mac Pro case that has more gaming oriented hardware for that user demographic given that gaming is starting to open up for Macs.

Use an i7 (instead of Xeon) and other more consumer price level friendly components to make a Mac "Gamer" tower.

Well yes, that is one easiest solution and answer for all those grudges, including mine. If I were Tim, I'd do that. But it's just not Apple oriented.
And also Apple says "Games" word on any of their Store .. most of times we're not talking on the same page. It's not BattleField 3, nor Mass Effect 3. It's GTA San Andreas  It's a great game for its time. But it is 2012, so yeah .. I rolled eyes there.

For the love of God, I think I'm ready to "accept" the fact that MacPro is the only viable solution if I want a true quality and upgradeability of a Mac.
So when Apple releases a fully loaded and upgraded MP in 2013 (let's cross fingers here) I'd bit the bullet and go with it. Or gaming tower+MBA it is.

CS:GO for Mac released same time as Windows version; albeit, that game uses an older game engine and the system requirements are lower than many other popular recent games.

Other popular recent games are quite demanding in terms of GPU requirements making system longevity more difficult unless individual components can be replaced.

The game developers try to make the games have the best graphics as possible to attract players in that competitive market. The hardware manufacturers benefit from this marketing scheme.

The only losers are the consumers unless games like CS:GO that don't require the latest hardware become popular. Albeit, not many games have a history like the CS series to attract buyers.

Yes a few games released together for both OS. D3 and CS:GO are a fine examples. True, CS line ups has never been an attractive titles for many users. It defines the world of online gaming though.

You're going to spend $15,000 + on a computer for gaming?

My thoughts were the same when I read that. If you're that big into games, spend a fraction of the cost and build a Windows box.

Huh? No. I might end up with single hexcore MP, and it doesn't cost $15.000 in total. And since it will be my gaming+working machine, it's not exactly I burn money just for the lulz. Same reason why I got my iMac. I want my Mac+gaming machine combined. I think it almost works, it could be. But we had that discussion already, so let's not get there anymore.

But yeah, still I'd rather Apple come up with mid level price point MP using consumer parts. Hey, people argue today's MBP CPUs almost as fast as desktop ones. So, why not do the same to replace Xeon with desktop i7 and make it more affordable? I think that should be a pretty logical move.

Or like I said earlier. If MP is dead so be it. Gaming box + MBA will be my choice of future.

An affordable tower design Mac would definitely tempt me. While I'm a huge fan of the iMac AIO form factor, I'd probably go with a tower + thunderbolt display if it meant user-accessible parts. Especially the capability of putting in a desktop class GPU (or two) in it. Somehow I just don't see Apple doing that but who knows, anything could happen.

Mac Pros aren't specced for gaming. The hardware is for the professional market.

Xeon, ECC Ram, and etc are more expensive than the parts used on the typical gaming computer.

Edit: Sorry, I think I misunderstood the content of your post.

True, definitely my dream, and I believe many other's too. A capable and affordable MacPro tower-like concept is a computing heaven.
It's pretty, it's a Mac, it's powerful, it's priced within reason. And it does games too.

You could end up spend less and get more than having separated gaming system & Mac combo, which people usually have nowadays to compensate each other.

Utopia, I know .. but one can dream, right?

Let's be honest now, if Apple sells a quad MacPro together with the 27" Cinema Display for $2000, would you still pick the iMac over it? Come on, just think about it? Give me a straight and honest answer here?

See?
It's not people who don't want or need it, but Apple does not provide the solution. Plain and simple

I couldn't agree more with this but because they dont I will still be buying an iMac because i just cant wait for the up date/afford the Specs I need in a MacPro.

Only reason Apple even went to an All-In-One is because it would sell. The truth is there is NOTHING beneficial about the All-In-One design beyond it looking pretty and neat and being super user friendly for a dumbass that can't plug a monitor, keyboard, and mouse into a tower...

Personally I wish they would drop the AIO design and make a true desktop... How does, taking a bunch of heat producing computer components out of a box with multiple fans designed to properly cool said components and putting them behind the SCREEN (who the hell wants all that heat behind their screen?!) make any since?

All the while they had to sacrifice a great deal of raw computing power to do so... A mobile GPU in a desktop? Ha that's a joke...

AND last but not least... the only iMac thats really worth getting is the maxxed out 27" and of course Apple wants an arm, a leg, two fingers, and one of your kidneys for it... Don't even get me started on how badass of a super computer you could build using Newegg with a $3,000+ budget...

/end rant

However I completely understand why Apple did what they did. The majority of consumers either dont know/or dont care about the stuff above. The average Joe would of course think a screen with no tower is 100x cooler and better...

Funniest post I've ever read on MacRumors! And that is not a compliment. LMFAO.

Been busy in college so I haven't had time to look at this thread since my last post. I lol'd a few times while catching up.

This thread was not intended to be a troll post. It is simply my opinion and I decided to throw it out there...

Some understand where I'm coming from but many many others on here just got butt hurt because they're iMac owners and for some reason thought I was referring to them in my original post (had to make that clear later in the thread that I wasn't but that didn't help...)

I'm done though. This forum has too many closed minded members that just care about defending how great and amazing their apple computers are.

Deuces.
